While people come to therapy for different reasons, almost all are in pain. When people are willing to cultivate a better understanding of themselves, it’s easier for them to achieve their goals in therapy and reduce that pain. I’ve been offering counseling since 1997 and have found over the years that people can obtain more peace in their lives and that peace comes from a greater awareness and understanding of themselves. My role in therapy is to guide you through the process and maintain unconditional positive regard for you while we work together.

Going through any change in life is a challenge. It is perfectly normal to have feelings of doubt, uncertainty, and ambivalence. I truly believe that people are the expert on themselves. This allows me the opportunity to learn about each individual's unique experiences and provide an objective perspective. In doing this, it is my goal to assist each person in exploring different future options to help them achieve their best self. My promise to my clients is that I walk alongside them to offer support while making those changes. Ultimately, my hope is to make myself obsolete so that you become your own therapist.

You may have ended up here if you have found yourself trying all of the fad diets only to have gained the weight back. When someone pulls out the dessert at events, you probably feel embarrassed, ashamed, and tend to withdraw because the thoughts you have about food consume you. It makes total sense that you believe if you were “the right size” you’d be happy and content with your body. The way we think and feel about our bodies and food directly impact our mental and physical health. In reality, the guilt and anxiety you have around food is what you need some support around – I get that and I am here for you!

This approach incorporates elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. I truly believe there is no problem too small or large to address in therapy, and in fact, one does not need to be experiencing a specific issue to benefit from the opportunity for personal growth counseling offers. No matter what circumstances may have brought you here, please accept my invitation to reach out today.

I believe we have the innate ability to heal ourselves, whether the issue is fear, anxiety, relationship difficulties, communication problems, chronic illness, or even a major life transition. Whether it is emotional / psychological / relationship, I view these as a call for change, growth and development. My approach with my clients is through a partnership and collaboration that fosters a healing journey, new skills, and a plan for wellness and self development. As a life coach, my specialty areas are: individuals experiencing major life transitions, promoting health and wellness, and recovery from childhood trauma.

How effective is treatment for insomnia?
The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.
Are there specific medications for sleep problems?
There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.
Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?
There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.
What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?
Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
