My focus as a therapist is to assist you in personal healing and discovering your wholeness. Therapy is a process that allows us to reflect, discover, and grow. Often feelings of depression and anxiety, self-esteem and relationship issues, addiction and trauma can block us from feeling "ok", and fully integrated into the life we want. My training in EMDR, TF-CBT, blended with a utilization of mindfulness principles and "parts work" serve to assist my clients in healing and growth.

I specialize in childhood trauma , with treatment options such as Trauma -Focused CBT and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) with influences from DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) and the Polyvagal Theory.
“People start to heal the moment they feel heard” - Cheryl Richardson - I think many of us have felt unheard at one point or another. As a social worker and therapist, my goal is to hold space for my clients and truly hear what they have to say, whether that is verbally or through art, music, or play. I believe in treating the health of a whole person — mind, body, and spirit — as one does not exist without the others. I work collaboratively with the client to determine the best roadmap for their therapy.

I work with clients who have issues of grief, depression, various kinds of trauma , including trauma which may be from past lives, sexual abuse trauma , life transitions, aging, near-death experiences, spirituality, spiritual wounding, and spiritual emergency. Although I can help the individual heal and/or cope better with the symptoms or issues they might be experiencing, if the individual is willing to do the deeper soul work, I also want to help that person find the meaning of those symptoms and issues, and in finding that meaning, begin to experience spiritual transformation and growth - new life.

Trust and confidentiality in the counseling relationship provides a safe and private place to process what is going on in life and to move forward. It is challenging for anyone in these conditions to manage the demands of work, family, and life responsibilities. Stressors on the job and in relationships can significantly impact one’s physical and emotional health. Stress doesn’t go away, and conditions such as constantly being exposed to others' trauma can lead to anxiety and depression, among other unwanted responses. My scope of practice includes those experiencing stress from any area of life, including relationships and work.

I specialize in treating trauma in various populations (youth, adolescents, adult).
I have years of experience working with youth, adolescents and their families dealing with a range of issues from juvenile delinquency, substance abuse and trauma . I have developed professionalism and discipline form my time in the U.S. Army, and have extensive experience in education and coaching. I have spent years helping youth academically, athletically and socially. I have worked with the offender populations and have demonstrated a safe and caring space for this marginalized group. In addition, I have worked with victims of abuse, and have created a safe, caring empathetic place for them to process their concerns. My experience has allowed me to develop the unique ability to bridge the gap between, offender/victim, teacher/student, caregiver/child, felon/community and individual/system. If you are in need of culturally competent, evidenced based treatment, with a focus on solutions, and a balanced approach of love and logic, faith and fact then look no further.

With trauma experiences and PTSD , I specialize in the effects of trauma in your daily living and educating about trauma responses and the resulting attachment issues that affect your interpersonal relationships.
My therapy style is empathetic, insightful, reflective, humorous and goal-affirming. I have always had a "quirky" sense of humor and I love that I can bring that into session with me. Sometimes being able to laugh or to see the absurdity of life shakes loose the obstacles and anxiety. My initial goal is to connect with you and your experiences in your world, ask questions, provide feedback, and use interventions to rebuild and reinforce your sense of self and your place in the universe.

“Healing may not be so much about getting better, as about letting go of everything that isn’t you- all of the expectations, all of the beliefs- and becoming who you are.” -Rachel Naomi Remen. While life is often full of beauty, it also comes with uncertainties, challenges and at times, suffering. Aisha believes therapy is an empowering tool for anyone who may be struggling to navigate through life’s challenges, adjusting to present adversity or processing unhealed trauma . Regardless of the struggle you may be facing, Aisha seeks to promote a non-judgemental and relatable approach to assisting others in establishing autonomy.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
