I create an authentic, collaborative and non-judgmental therapeutic space where clients are able to address areas in life that aren't working ( anxiety, anger, depression, low self-esteem, relationships, painful experiences); to explore and resolve the internal and relational barriers that limits healing and personal growth; and to create an action plan that empowers clients to live out their full potential.
I whole-heartedly believe healing is possible for all people. Parts of the work in counseling will focus on practical solutions while other parts will focus on the root issues. I realize there isn’t a one-sized-fits-all formula for change, I spend time listening and understanding your perspective to tailor my approach based on your needs and desires.

Working with Individuals, Couples and Families around a variety of issues is a gift and an honor. Seeking professional help takes courage and strength and is a choice that I deeply respect. While some clients are struggling with long-term issues that are affecting their daily lives, others are seeking a confidential space to talk through a specific relationship issue or difficult life stage. My goal is to work cooperatively with clients to help facilitate their personal, emotional, physical and spiritual growth. My hope is for clients to leave my office feeling respected, heard, understood, empowered and mobilized for change.

Thinking and feeling in ways that allow you to engage your daily life, others, and your personal goals with energy, creativity, and effectiveness is the thrust of my approach and practice. Identifying patterns that restrict cognitive and behavioral functioning, preventing understanding and integration of personal and interpersonal dynamics is a key focus. Increasing self awareness and understanding through enhancing mindfulness, expanding thinking about self and others, and developing behavior patterns that mobilize personal strengths, assets, and motivation is the goal of the work.

Participating in therapy takes courage. Looking at ourselves doesn't always come naturally, and as a result, we have parts of us that are terrified of what we might find. Quite the opposite has been my experience, in that, learning about ourselves is what sets us free from being stuck in a life we are unhappy with. While our old programming discourages us from looking at our vulnerabilities, the modern world we live in today demands that we take a deeper look at our unconscious patterns.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

What are the most common types of treatment for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
