You may feel stuck in patterns you understand logically but struggle to change emotionally. Perhaps stress, overwhelm, emotional eating, or ongoing challenges in relationships have become ways of coping, even though they no longer serve you. You’re motivated for change, yet frustrated by cycles of short-term progress followed by setbacks. You want lasting relief, greater self-trust, and healthier relationships—with food, your body, and the people in your life.

As a Gestalt-trained therapist, I help clients become aware of what they are doing, how they are doing it and how they can change. This collaborative, holistic approach emphasizes self-acceptance, allowing clients to become more aware of the ways unexamined thoughts, emotions and behaviors may block individual growth and development.

Let's face it. We all struggle with life circumstances from time to time, and many times we need someone to listen and provide some effective, objective feedback to help us figure out what next steps to take. On top of what life can throw at us, many of us also struggle with ongoing anxiety, depression, and other mental health difficulties that make facing life's challenges even more challenging. Seeking professional help during these times is an important step toward establishing a healthy balance in life that benefits oneself and those one cares for.

If you seem like you have it together but feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or alone, I can help. I offer EMDR in Grand Rapids, MI. You may understand your patterns (overthinking, self-doubt, feeling responsible for others, never quite feeling settled) but they keep showing up. If therapy hasn’t fully helped, you’re not alone. Many of my clients are high-functioning and self-aware, have been to therapy and understand their patterns, but still feel stuck. Emotional neglect and relational trauma (or CPTSD) are held not just in your thoughts, but in your nervous system and they need more than insight to start to shift.

I am a Christian and if you are looking for Christian counseling, I counsel from both grace and truth using scripture and prayer as you are comfortable.
Are you a woman who constantly gives but has difficulty caring for yourself? Do you find yourself in relationships that lack boundaries? Do you always defer to others preferences and ignore your own wants and needs? Does it feel like you have lost your sense of self? If so, you are making the right choice considering counseling. I would love to support you as you find yourself again (or maybe for the first time). I am currently accepting new clients and have availability only on Friday evenings

Have you always believed you were self-sufficient, able to handle any and all challenges which come your way? Are you usually the person family and friends rely on for advice or directions on how to solve their life issues? But, now you need help resolving issues of your own and your feelings of anxiety, depression and or stress are negatively impacting the relationships in your life. Being able to acknowledge that your life has become overwhelming can be the first and hardest step when beginning a journey of change and healing. The next most challenging step involves trying to determine what to do to get the help you need.

My ideal client is a thoughtful, self-aware woman who is successful in many areas of life but feels stuck in her relationships. She notices repeating patterns — attracting the same dynamics, over-giving, overthinking, or pulling away when things feel too close. She may be struggling with relationship anxiety, attachment wounds, or the exhaustion of always being "the strong one." She doesn't just want coping skills. She wants understanding, security, and the confidence to choose relationships that are aligned — not just familiar.

I am a School Psychologist that has worked in education for 24 years. I complete psychoeducational evaluations and screenings to help parents and students better understand their learning patterns and needs. Through assessment, a student's learning struggles can be identified so that the right path of intervention and services can be put into place. I work with parents/students to plan out an evaluation that will encompass their concerns and provide answers.

Christian Therapists
Why is it important for a therapist to be culturally sensitive?
Therapists and clients don’t need to share the same belief system or background to be able to work effectively together, but a therapist whose training includes a focus on cultural competence may be better able to form a therapeutic bond with individuals from a range of backgrounds, as they will have experience in tailoring their approach to each client—and will be prepared to acknowledge and consider the effects of culture, religion, and other factors on each individual.

Why is it important to find a therapist sensitive to Christian values?
Each person brings a unique history and background to therapy, making it important to find a licensed therapist who is trained in a broad range of treatment modalities. In addition, for people who grow up in a faith tradition that strongly influences the way they conduct their everyday life, finding a therapist who understands or shares that background can ease the disclosure of sensitive information and facilitate the therapeutic process. For some clients, a Christian therapist is likely to incorporate faith-based principles into emotional healing techniques.

How do I recognize an effective Christian therapist?
Christian therapists are licensed mental health professionals—holding a master’s or doctoral degree in medicine, nursing, psychology, counseling, social work, or marriage and family therapy—who are also familiar with Christian beliefs and values. They have an understanding of the importance that Christian principles play in the lives of individuals and families, which allows them to be especially sensitive to the kinds of struggles that can affect daily functioning. Like all effective therapists, a Christian therapist will have undergone training and certification in a variety of treatment modalities that help people through crises and enable them to master the challenges of life.

Why might someone feel comfortable with a Christian therapist?
While training, qualifications, and experience are always important, research has long established that a strong alliance between client and therapist is a major contributor to therapeutic success. An alliance is likely to be strengthened with a therapist who not only is responsive to questions and concerns but also shares a client’s faith and values. Sensitivity to spiritual matters as well as to everyday struggles can provide a welcome sense of safety and contribute to the bond between client and therapist, both of which support the therapeutic process.

Who is included in Psychology Today’s directory of Christian therapists?
The directory of Christian therapists includes professionals who have shared their background in their profiles. However, not all therapists choose to disclose this information, and they may not appear in search results for this reason. The directory also shows therapists who indicate that they have extensive experience working with Christian clients, regardless of their own background or religious affiliation.
