Everyone deserves a space where they feel safe enough to be themselves. I work with children, teens, and young adults who are feeling overwhelmed, questioning their identity, struggling with self-confidence, or finding it difficult to navigate life's changes. Together, we'll build a deeper understanding of your thoughts, emotions, and patterns while developing practical tools that support lasting growth. My goal is to create a warm, collaborative space where you feel seen, accepted, and empowered to move forward with greater confidence and self-understanding.

It’s not uncommon for anger, men’s issues, or relationship struggles to leave you feeling frustrated and disconnected.
In sessions, we’ll notice patterns that create conflict, experiment with practical changes, and strengthen communication and emotional regulation. These steps can reduce anger, improve connection, and make challenges feel more manageable.

I have experience working with clients struggling with depression, anxiety, anger issues, marital issues, ADD/ADHD, ODD, stress management, alcohol and substance abuse, men's issues, and family issues.
Hello! My name is Doug Shotsky and I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in Ohio and Michigan. I am experienced and competent in many different therapeutic approaches and don't believe that any approach is a one-size-fits-all all. I also utilize a holistic approach including the mental, physical, and spiritual aspects from a biblical perspective. My initial approach is to build a good working relationship with each client in order to create an atmosphere where clients feel comfortable being transparent. This is key to identifying specific issues, treatment approaches, and a plan of action for each client individually.

Whether you’re dealing with trauma, anxiety, depression, substance use concerns, difficulty managing anger, stress, overthinking, low confidence, or several of these at once, you don’t have to keep carrying the burden alone.
I’ve worked with thousands of clients who felt stuck in self-defeating beliefs, guilt, shame, or old patterns that drained the joy out of life. What I’ve learned is simple: when people reconnect with hope, purpose, and strengths they may have forgotten they possess, they often begin seeing themselves and their circumstances differently.

Anger Management Therapists
How long does therapy take for anger management?
Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?
Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?
Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
