Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists in Galena, OH
I serve children and teens ages 6–18 who may face learning challenges, attention difficulties, or emotional concerns. Their families are looking for clarity and direction, whether it’s better understanding ADHD, identifying a learning disability, or learning how their child processes information best. Parents want meaningful answers that highlight strengths as well as needs, along with practical next steps. Above all, they seek reassurance, guidance, and tools to help their child succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.

In session we use CBT, ACT, and DBT-informed skills to explore thought patterns and build coping tools.
You're the person others depend on. Whether you're a teacher, nurse, social worker, caregiver, or simply someone who holds themselves to high standards, you're used to showing up for everyone else. To others, you seem capable and put together. But inside, you're battling self-doubt, imposter syndrome, or a persistent sense of not being good enough. You keep pushing forward because that's what you've always done. You want to help and leave the world a little better than you found it, but it's starting to feel heavy (you can literally feel it in your body). Therapy can be a space where you no longer have to carry it all alone.

I utilize a combination of IFS (parts work), deep listening, EMDR (certified), embodied mindfulness, and DBT.
Deciding to work with a therapist is a difficult and brave choice. I offer a safe space to unpack what's bothering you and help you find the lasting results you've been seeking, even if you've tried before and failed. It is possible to stop doubting, criticizing or sabotaging yourself. It is possible to feel good in your own skin, experience relationships that feel good, and leave anxiety and depression in the past. I help women learn to find their voice and feel more peace and joy. Multi-generational trauma is often part of our story, but healing is possible. Understanding your parts helps you find the freedom you seek.

There is a curious habit that I've noticed, especially when working with teens, that clients will mostly only work on the "issue of the week." This can have numerous benefits and can also delay the client's progress on any underlying concerns or patterns. Ideally, once a client has agreed to their treatment goals, they continue to take attainable steps towards that goal in therapy and in their daily life. When a client feels comfortable with their therapist to share their thoughts, emotions, and vulnerabilities, then deeper work can happen.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists
Who is DBT for?
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.
Why do people need DBT?
The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.
What happens in DBT?
Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.
How long does DBT last?
Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
