I enjoy all aspects of family therapy with a specialized interest upon the roles and demands of women (individual, children, family, disability, geriatric, addiction, marriage and care taking). To help build upon progress and create additional movement toward goals, I use a systems perspective to better understand the basis for behaviors and potential levers for change using an assortment of empirically and evidence-based approaches. I have served on the Ohio NASW Ethics Committee and firmly believes in the importance of ethical practice, meeting patients where they are, while creating a safe and empathetic environment for change.

Do you find it difficult to deal with life transitions and change? Life has its unique challenges as we navigate through the different stages. Sometimes, we need support through these stages while dealing with the ongoing changes in our personal universe. Although change is difficult to handle at times, I feel that change promotes personal growth, perseverance, and inner strength. When dealt with appropriately, change can be a healthy part of life.

You just want to feel better. Past experiences have turned you into someone you don’t recognize. You’re constantly on edge and can’t sleep. If sleep does come, it’s often restless and filled with nightmares. Your creativity, performance, and professionalism is suffering. You often feel tremendous guilt and shame; no one understands what it's like. Or maybe you stuff the hurt, pain, and disappointment down deep, so no one sees it. You know how to put on a good, happy face for everyone. The emptiness and deep loneliness feel unbearable. Or maybe this describes your loved one who you can’t seem to reach no matter how hard you try.

I will support you as you build tools to manage sadness, confusion, anger, family and relationship conflict, and intersectionality.
As a Black female, I offer a nuanced understanding of how race, culture, and identity shape the experiences of my clients. I use this awareness to acknowledge the impact systemic racism and generational trauma may have on my clients' lived experiences. It is important my clients feel heard and validated.

I strive to provide positive, empathetic, non-judgmental, collaborative, and encouraging services with each client, working to match my approach to their individual needs and concerns. I help clients zoom out to see the bigger picture and zoom in to see the strengths that they bring to every situation. I listen, support, and value my clients’ beliefs while challenging them to reflect on how these developed and where these are leading them. This informs my counseling mantra, “Be a Lighthouse” - to act as a guide to help each person find their way through the storms, rocky coasts, and challenges of life.

Anger Management Therapists
How long does therapy take for anger management?
Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?
Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?
Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
