I use Existential therapy and ACT to help you clarify values, confront what matters, and act with purpose.
You served, or you built something, or both. From the outside your life looks fine — career, family, maybe a business you started. Inside, something is off. The purpose that used to pull you forward has gone quiet. You're irritable with people you love. You're drinking more, sleeping less, or scrolling through a job you used to care about. You're wondering whether this is a crisis, a season, or a slow drift — and whether you're allowed to call it anything at all.

Do you find it difficult to deal with life transitions and change? Life has its unique challenges as we navigate through the different stages. Sometimes, we need support through these stages while dealing with the ongoing changes in our personal universe. Although change is difficult to handle at times, I feel that change promotes personal growth, perseverance, and inner strength. When dealt with appropriately, change can be a healthy part of life.

I will sometimes add CBT and ACT to treat depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation.
My name is Kristen Gidel Kelly and I am the Founder and Clinical Director of Imagine Recovery Counseling in Gahanna, OH. Trauma Recovery work to me is healing from ALL types of trauma that result from mental health or substance use disorders. I became a Chemical Dependency Counselor in 2008 because I have lived experience of the impact of substance use disorders. I became an EMDR therapist in 2016 because I realized that most people who use substances have trauma. I wanted to help people heal and recover, not just repeat the pattern of relapse behavior. I became a DBT therapist in 2019 because I was told by a trusted colleague

Feeling anxious and overwhelmed may seem like your normal, but I assure you that you were not created to live that way. Peace and contentment is very possible given the right skills and support. Perhaps feeling stuck or trapped is where you have been lately and it is affecting other areas of your life where you are not living as your best self. Relationships can be hard especially if we have stressors weighing us down so we feel even more defeated. Feeling good about yourself and others is very possible as most people were not given the coping strategies needed and survival is where many people are at. You don't have to be.

You just want to feel better. Past experiences have turned you into someone you don’t recognize. You’re constantly on edge and can’t sleep. If sleep does come, it’s often restless and filled with nightmares. Your creativity, performance, and professionalism is suffering. You often feel tremendous guilt and shame; no one understands what it's like. Or maybe you stuff the hurt, pain, and disappointment down deep, so no one sees it. You know how to put on a good, happy face for everyone. The emptiness and deep loneliness feel unbearable. Or maybe this describes your loved one who you can’t seem to reach no matter how hard you try.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists
How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.
What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?
The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.
Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?
Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.
How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?
A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
