I most often work with an individual adult or teen who wants healing and growth: healing from trauma and pain, growth in relationships with others and within self. Most clients have a desire for more connection, truthfulness about themselves and their world, peace, and spiritual life. I also enjoy working with couples and families toward better communication and relational health.

While I enjoy providing care for all, I am especially passionate about working with millennial women & teen girls that have suffered mental, physical, verbal and spiritual abuse that struggle with depression, anxiety, and mood disorders.
Accepting New Patients!!! Madeline Albright said, "It took a long time for me to develop a voice and now that I have it, I am not going to be silent." If you are looking to develop your voice and sense of self while overcoming the pain of trauma, I am here to help. Many times, we as women don't use our voice for fear of not being believed, heard, or understood. We keep our pain inside, and it's not healthy.

I specialized in child and adolescent development and mental health needs.
I specialize in working with youth and families who have experienced trauma, have difficulty regulating their emotions, or are having difficulties in school. I understand it can be difficult for a child or adolescent to seek mental health services; I use various techniques including play and art to help engage my clients in the counseling process. I make sure to involve clients in every step of the way to ensure that the treatment plan and interventions meet the client’s unique needs. I also offer tele-counseling if transportation is an issue or you simply want to stay home!

In working with teens, and families I empower the teen while building growth within the parents as well in order to foster lasting change.
I believe that mental health issues arise when we are faced with overwhelming emotions in isolation. Without the necessary support, emotions get so big and daunting that we defend ourselves against them, leading to numbness, anxiety, and depression. My goal is to invite intense emotions into the room so that we can learn to regulate them together and they can be reincorporated into the psyche, leading to a fuller and healthier life.

Clients I work with have issues with anxiety, depression, teen and adult ADHD and victims of narcissistic abuse.
When I decided to pursue a career as a therapist I did so because I wanted to make the world a better place, and decided to do that by helping one person at a time . My primary approach to mental health counseling is the Person -Centered approach . This means I believe that no one knows you better than you know yourself. It is my job to help you identify goals , improve communication , strengthen self-esteem and develop solutions and coping skills. During the counseling process you are in the driver's seat, I am just a GPS to help you on the road to better mental health. However, I'm not closed to other counseling approaches.

We specialize in working with Black women & teen girls, though all are welcome.
"My mission in life is not to merely survive, but to thrive and do so with some passion, compassion, some humor, and some style." -Maya Angelou As black women we are usually the last on our list- the order is usually kids, partners, parents, family, jobs, friends... then you. All of this and we're barely making it. Why continue to struggle and merely survive, when you can thrive. Depression doesn't always look like tears and pity parties. It can look like overwhelm, anger, unstable emotions, isolation, and anxiety too! Sound like anyone you know? Is it you girl?

My purpose is to assist children, adolescent , and young adults shift their thinking beyond external definitions and look inside to define themselves. Skewed definitions of self lead to difficulty regulating emotions, difficulties in school, or other emotional disorders such as depression and anxiety which can lead to poor coping skills. Parents allow me to journey with you and your child to successfully navigate the next steps toward a purposeful life.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
