In my work with adults, we explore challenges related to depression, anxiety, marriage, family relationships, women's issues , parenting, grief and loss, career stressors, and life transitions.
Each day it seems that life presents a new challenge, often causing us to question certain decisions that we have made or to consider new paths that we would like to explore. My goal is to gain a clear picture of each individual's needs, explore new and more effective ways of problem solving, and help each individual develop greater insight and growth. I believe the relational component of therapy is essential and serves at the foundation for establishing trust, compassion, empathy, and respect. I have expertise in working with individuals of all ages: children, adolescents, adults and families.

I specialize in PTSD/issues related to abuse and trauma, addiction treatment (chemical and behavioral), grief, mood disorders, LGBT, and women's issues , and take the approach of walk-and-talk counseling in the forest for somatic healing and offer telehealth counseling sessions.
Trauma symptoms can take many forms: a low hum of depression or depression that keeps you in bed for days, crippling anxiety, self-doubt, constant negative thinking, substance abuse, dysfunctional family relationships... or just a feeling of "lost", "hopeless", "stuck" or "worthless". The truth is that we are subject to trauma just by experiencing life that we weren't prepared for, and it can look like a lot of things: a change of jobs...a death in the family...COVID, or serious abuse. If you're looking for an alternative, holistic approach to healing trauma, please reach out.

I specialize in sexual issues, relationship issues, physical, sexual, and emotional abuse, job related stress, life transitions, and the impacts of trauma, injury, and illness. I view the therapeutic relationship as a collaborative partnership and my goal is to create a supportive environment of trust and acceptance. I practice an insight-oriented and psychodynamic approach, meaning that the past informs the present and can create unconscious patterns of thought and behavior. Once we have awareness of how our experiences impact our lives, healing can begin.

Women's Issues Therapists

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?

Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?

Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
