If you or your loved one is struggling with eating, sleep, motivation, or schoolwork, these can be indicators that life is out of balance. These are common signs of depression, anxiety, eating disorders, or PTSD. Having a child who is struggling to keep afloat can feel overwhelming, and recovery may feel like an insurmountable task. I provide evidence-based treatment for children, adolescents and young adults using Family Based Treatment (FBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Intuitive Eating, and CPT. I am here to guide you through the stages of treatment towards recovery and improvement of your life and family functioning.

I specialize in sexual issues, relationship issues, physical, sexual, and emotional abuse, job related stress, life transitions, and the impacts of trauma, injury, and illness. I view the therapeutic relationship as a collaborative partnership and my goal is to create a supportive environment of trust and acceptance. I practice an insight-oriented and psychodynamic approach, meaning that the past informs the present and can create unconscious patterns of thought and behavior. Once we have awareness of how our experiences impact our lives, healing can begin.

Do you often feel overwhelmed or that you "can't handle it"? Do you struggle to communicate with those closest to you? Maybe you spend a lot of time thinking about the past or worrying about the future, or maybe you worry that you'll never feel good about yourself. Imagine what it might feel like to wake up and feel confident about yourself. Think about how you would feel if you knew that you could handle stress, felt good about your relationships, and had a life worth celebrating.

Our patterns of life can feel stressful at times. For example, there could be relationship breakdowns, anxiety, unhealthy anger, depression, confusion, negativity or past trauma. In addition, there are quotas, targets, and high expectations at work, school, or on the playing field. All of this can affect our performance, mood, and overall well-being. However, we are not limited by our struggles or challenges, but only at the points at which we break and refuse the proactive choice of putting ourselves back together, piece by piece.

"Cheer up." "Relax." "Put the past in the past." If it's easier said than done, you don't have to do it alone. Anxiety, depression and trauma are all treatable. Anger and grief can be regulated and taken in stride. I welcome people whose emotions sometimes seem stronger than they are. With over twenty years of experience in private practice and community mental health, I've helped people face the hardest life has to offer.

Whether it's stress, depression, anxiety, life transitions, relationship or family concerns, the emotional toll of an illness or a trauma, I have a strong record of helping my clients achieve their mental health goals. I am eager to support your efforts to move forward, address your challenges, and lead a fuller life. Sometimes we feel stuck in our lives. It takes courage to admit that everything we have tried to get ourselves unstuck has not worked. It also takes courage to contact a therapist for the first time, or if you have been in counseling before, trying it again.

Adulting is hard is one of the most consistent messages, whether it's coming from a Tiktok video or from the people we care about. Having witnessed the persons struggle through detoxing, trying to figure out how to be really seen and heard by their partner without repeating the same conflict patterns, wrestling with depression about the past and/or anxiety about the future, I agree with the messages. I've also been there when someone in recovery reunites with their community, partners work to repair their relationship, and people who've been weighed down for years experience some relief. That type of outcome is what I work towards.

Welcome! Working with children and their families, to help guide them through the tough years is one of my passions. Parenting isn't easy and being a kid and learning how to navigate this world is hard. I can help alleviate some of that stress. I work with adults who are experiencing depression and/or anxiety or difficulty getting through the day to day. By changing the way we view life, social interactions and stressors we are able to change how they affect us and in turn, how we feel. Stress is a normal human condition. How you allow it to affect your day to day life is up to you.

I see my goal as helping each individual discover his or her purpose while embracing his or her individuality. I have learned to utilize my experiences as an African-American, husband, father, social worker, soccer coach and friend in assisting each individual I work with to become all their meant to be.”
