My background includes working with clients on a broad spectrum of therapeutic goals — including anxiety, depression, LGBTQ issues, anger management and more. My counseling philosophy is based on the understanding that no matter what we have experienced, there is an aspect of us all that is whole and complete just as it is. By continually orienting to this ground of wholeness, I believe we can fundamentally alter our relationship to our problems — shifting them from something that defines us to something that simply needs to be met, understood, and resolved.

My clients are typically between the ages of 18 and 60. They are typically, but not exclusively, queer, trans, polyamorous, neurodivergent, or exploring identities. Clients come to me to receive skills, tools, and processing from someone who shares one or more of my identities. I work a lot with both couples, individuals, and the occasional group who are seeking direction or accountability help with polyamory and/or Ethical Non-Monogamy. I also work with a lot of survivors of religious trauma.

Looking for a unique therapy experience? Want a really engaging therapist?
Hi I'm Alex! I'm a therapist that focuses on transformational change in the face of complex and developmental trauma. The behaviors we develop to survive our childhoods or toxic relationships can feel like they're ripping us apart when we are finally safe. Family dysfunction, narcissistic abuse, childhood neglect are just a few examples of things that significantly impact behavior, thought patterns, and attachment. The best way forward is to explore the psyche and forge a new path.

I have advanced training in Internal Family Systems and Emotionally Focused Therapy.
My work is an invitation to activate internal healing and deepen external connection. Relationally, I hope to move folks towards security in Self, safe risking (vulnerability) with partner(s), and mutual healing: a sacred place where bonding replaces self-preservation. With individuals, I welcome all parts as one establishes an awareness of their inner healer, the core "Self" of who you are. As therapy progresses, trust in the therapist moves towards trust in "Self." I see folks as "stuck" and not "sick," and I hold the mantra: "just as there is a healer in me, there is a healer in you." Let's get to know it.

help high-achieving adults set down the mask and feel fully seen, without pressure to perform or be “fixed.” You’re not broken. You’re human, carrying anxiety, shame, burnout, or the quiet loneliness beneath success. Many of my clients are people in high-responsibility roles who appear steady but feel disconnected inside. For over 20 years, I’ve worked with anxiety, work-related stress, trauma, and attachment patterns rooted in the belief that worth is earned through usefulness or achievement.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapists
What is Internal Family Systems therapy?
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a type of talk therapy that focuses on sub-personalities, or “families,” within a person, which may be made up of wounded parts and unpleasant emotions like anger and shame. These sub-personalities can come into conflict with each other and with an individual’s core Self, leaving the person feeling detached from positive traits such as the “8 C’s” of confidence, calmness, creativity, clarity, curiosity, courage, compassion, and connectedness. By healing a patient’s wounded parts, a therapist aims to restore balance and bring on positive change.
How does Internal Family Systems therapy work?
An IFS therapist will work with a patient to identify their particular sub-personalities, recognize the emotions powering them, and release them. By doing so, the patient should become more able to address any underlying problems their sub-personalities may have been trying to protect them from. Ultimately, a patient discovers ways to manage internal and external conflicts on their own, through techniques such as relaxation exercises, journaling, and making charts depicting the relationships between their core Self and their distinct parts.
Does Internal Family Systems therapy work?
IFS therapy has been shown to help people address conditions such as depression, anxiety, panic, fears and phobias, trauma, and substance use disorders. Some research has also found that it can help individuals deal with symptoms of physical health conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, such as pain, everyday functioning, depressive feelings, and low self-compassion. There are some conditions for which IFS treatment, specifically discussions of one’s “parts,” may be less appropriate, such as schizophrenia or other states that involve psychosis or paranoia.
How long does Internal Family Systems therapy take?
As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for IFS therapy. After becoming comfortable with a therapist and the core concepts of IFS, some patients quickly make progress. While experiences vary, most will find that it is a relatively longer-term therapy, involving months and sometimes years of sessions.
