Some of the modalities I am trained in include DBT and EMDR.
Each individual’s path to mental well-being is as personal as it is unique. No matter the challenges you’re navigating, remember, you don’t have to face them alone. In my counseling sessions, I offer a soft-spoken and empathetic approach. I believe that therapy is most effective when clients feel safe, understood, and empowered. My priority lies in creating a supportive environment where clients can explore their emotions, process their experiences, and develop healthy coping strategies.

I’ve always felt like a therapist at heart, and becoming one has been a natural calling. I’m endlessly fascinated by people and their stories, and I find great meaning in walking alongside others in their healing journey. I love the energy that comes from working with clients—even the most challenging situations can be opportunities for growth and connection.

Welcome. I have been providing compassionate and non-judgmental care to adults since 2009. In my career I have specialized in working with people who have survived trauma and abuse that resulted in addiction, suicidal thoughts, and self harm. But even if that is not your story, I believe that as humans we all carry a certain amount of pain, stress, and trauma from events both big and small in our lives and the lives of those we care about.

With deeper understanding of ourselves and our experiences comes an ability to intentionally navigate the world and live a more fulfilling life. Taking a psychodynamic approach to therapy, I work most effectively with folks who want to increase understanding of why they do what they do and how past relationships (with themselves and others) influence current behavior, concerns, and "stuck points". It is with this new understanding that they can change patterns that are no longer working for them.

I integrate DBT, ACT, and Somatic Therapy to support resilience and personal growth.
Let’s be real, life can be messy. Some days, it feels like you have it all together, and other days, just getting out of bed deserves a gold medal. If you’re feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or stuck in patterns that aren’t working, you’re not alone. My goal is to provide a space where you can be your authentic self, no judgment, just support. I work with people who are dealing with anxiety, stress, life changes, or relationship struggles. If self-doubt is holding you back or burnout is making it hard to move forward, we’ll work together to help you feel more like yourself again.

Through my clinical experience I have noticed that societal pressures, peer pressure and unhealthy dynamics with others in the home, community and school settings have caused youth and young adults to rebel, often both internally and externally. Consequences of these behaviors can lead to impaired critical thinking skills, irregulated emotions and a lack of optimism of one’s ability to overcome barriers to a successful future. I utilize therapeutic interventions to empower clients and encourage them to recognize their untapped potential.

In addition to trauma approaches that include Cognitive Processing Therapy and Narrative Exposure Therapy, I also specialize in Cognitive Behavioral therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy to provide coping skills on managing negative thoughts related to difficult emotions, behaviors, and relationships.
Trauma is often created by changes you do not choose. Healing is about creating changes that you can choose. My name is Dr. Courtney Wineland and I have been working with clients for over 10 years. I provide trauma-informed care to those who have experienced childhood trauma, sexual and emotional abuse, are currently in or are recovering from relationship abuse, including those who have had narcissistic partners. I have also developed a passion, through my work at the Cincinnati VA, working with veterans who have experienced trauma and helping them to be able to navigate life outside of the military.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists
Who is DBT for?
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?
The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?
Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?
Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
