Our patterns of life can feel stressful at times. For example, there could be relationship breakdowns, anxiety, unhealthy anger, depression, confusion, negativity or past trauma. In addition, there are quotas, targets, and high expectations at work, school, or on the playing field. All of this can affect our performance, mood, and overall well-being. However, we are not limited by our struggles or challenges, but only at the points at which we break and refuse the proactive choice of putting ourselves back together, piece by piece.

From time to time we all experience life challenges that can benefit by communication with another. Speaking our challenge can give rise to better self awareness, understanding and resolution. I offer a safe environment to process, examine and grow as a result. I believe that each of us has a preferred communication lens I I utilize that preference to better communicate with each person with whom I sit. I am trained in multiple protocols but do not believe that one size fits all.

People try to make sense of their world as they perceive it. This is why people struggle with depression, anxiety, emotional regulation and expression, addiction, etc. Overall, I believe people want to understand what makes them who they are. Through understanding their struggles and being able to choose different ways of thinking, acting, and feeling, people can learn to be the best version of themselves.

I love my work. I have really enjoyed getting to know my clients over the past 25 years. Although I consult with adults, adolescents & children, I also see many couples and families. My clients are never the problem, they have problems and need solutions and strategies to get "unstuck" or make changes in their lives. I have also found personal, business and career coaching helpful to many clients. I am the owner of a large practice with psychologists, psychiatrists & counselors. If my hours or approach does not fit your needs I will find someone who can assist you.

You never know until you try. - My approach to therapy is client-centered, I believe the client knows best whether the treatment is benefiting him or her. I work to find the most-effective treatment for each individual. I accomplish this through practicing Feedback Informed Treatment. Most often, clients are offered suggestions for actions to take between sessions, with the goal of changing behaviors in order to improve daily functioning. Clients also often experience catharsis in being able to talk about things in session that they otherwise would not have been able to say out loud. I offer an unconditional environment for that.

My ideal client would be someone who could struggle with any number of issues including anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, career issues, self-esteem, life transitions, and many more. My ideal client would be open to multiple methods of treatment and willing to try new things in and outside of the session. I would like to work with clients who are hoping to manage their symptoms, accept help, and be engaged in their healing. These individuals put in the work needed in and outside of the session and that helps with therapeutic progress.

"Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom," Viktor Frankl. Everything that life throws at us can be overwhelming. Having a person to talk to in a safe, non judgmental space is important for maintaining overall wellness. Making the decision to seek help is a huge step and very empowering, congratulations!

How can I find a therapist in Columbus?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
