Welcome! Working with children and their families, helping to guide them through the tough years is one of my passions. Parenting isn't easy and being an adolescent and learning how to navigate life can be tough. Let's alleviate some of that stress by finding ways to manage it.  I work with adults who are experiencing depression and/or anxiety or difficulty getting through the day to day. By changing the way we view life, social interactions and stressors we are able to change how they affect us and in turn, how we feel. Stress is a normal human condition.  How you allow it to affect your day to day life is up to you.

Parenting, especially during this pandemic, can be exhausting, frustrating, and extremely difficult. Sometimes it feels like a thankless job that you cannot quit. Having a child who does not listen to you, screams for hours or acts up at school can be embarrassing and disappointing. Seeing your loving child change into a moody teen who stays in their room and refuses to interact with you can feel like you are living with a stranger.

Together, we will make sense of your relationships with your partner, teen , or child so that you can authentically give in the relationship AND ask for what you need.
You want to feel better and you don't know where to start. You feel afraid, angry, overwhelmed, lost, and, depressed most of the time. Maybe your marriage is unfulfilling, your teenagers and kids drive you crazy, or you can't even name what it is that feels so awful. You don't know how to show up, or how to fix things, and you are tired yet, the idea of contacting a therapist might be terrifying. I understand that it can be hard to seek help, but it might change your life.

I look forward to learning about you or your teen ! Call today to set up a meeting.
I am a Clinical Psychologist who works with both teens and adults. Most people seek my guidance when they feel stuck regarding their health, relationships, work, and family life. Often there is an underlying depression, anxiety, or low self esteem. Sometimes we realize that it stems from childhood neglect or trauma. We will explore your past, identify your strengths, and help you to develop new ways of thinking, feeling, and acting that better serve your life vision and goals. My approach is warm, collaborative, and holistic.

My specialty is anxiety, depression, and child/ adolescent -related issues.
The boldest thing you can do is embrace your story. It is in the choice to embrace that you discover your strengths, weaknesses, and quirks that make you uniquely you. As a free-spirited, Southern-raised Black woman, I understand that the journey is not always the prettiest. There are some thorns and pricks, but even in those moments, there is discovery. And that, my dear, is a beautiful thing. The thorns and pricks may cause some depression, anxiety, and negative emotions which can make the journey seem unbearable. So know this: I Got You and you are HEALED.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
