Hello and thank you for considering me as a teammate in your journey to wellness! As a Counselor and Licensed Art Therapist, I work with clients to achieve a state of health and wellness unique to them. You may have done therapy previously, or this may be your first time, but either way I will walk you through every step of this process providing education, support, warmth, and encouragement. I believe that all of us inherently know what we need in our lives, and we are all capable of achieving our goals, but at times we may need new tools and a consistent encouraging support system to make progress.

My practice focuses on working with individuals who bring a sense of curiosity and desire to gain a deeper understanding into themselves. Many of my clients are experiencing life transitions. Whether these transitions are planned or unanticipated, the changing circumstances may trigger feelings that are troubling, overwhelming and/or confusing. Other clients come in with a sense that they are not satisfied with their lives or relationships and may feel they are not reaching their full potential. They bring a desire for insight and change. During these uncertain times, I am here to support you as you adjust to a new way of living.

I am licensed in the state of Ohio as an independent chemical dependency counselor and social worker working with a very diverse population that includes, male, female, different addictions, criminal behaviors as well as relapse prevention.
Addiction effects the individuals’ mindset, wellbeing, family, as well as their community leading to major life events like legal problems, custody problems, marriage and relationship concerns and even self esteem issues due to the choices one has made while under the influence.

Clients I work with often feel disconnected and overwhelmed—whether by burnout, family dynamics, or existential stress. They struggle with people-pleasing, feeling unseen, or navigating political tension. I aim to provide a safe, supportive space for them to heal, set boundaries, and rediscover their voice. Their goal is to break free from the burden of trying to live up to everyone else's expectations, create a life that aligns with their values, and take up space confidently and authentically. They want to better protect their sense of peace, increase self-acceptance, and create deeper connections in their community.

Being trained in Marriage and Family Therapy isn't just about working with couples. It is best to state that relationships are my passion. Be it with the self: your thoughts, fears, concerns, spirituality, etc...or with others: a friend, sibling, partner, etc. Whether it's focusing on anxieties, communication, troubling thoughts, trauma, or depression, I founded One Session at a Time to provide an accepting, safe environment for those who want to challenge themselves in their journey toward self growth either on their own or with another.

People can heal from trauma. But you don't have to do this alone. People pleasing, relationship stress, anger, chronic pain, addictions, shame, insecurity; just a few ways trauma tends to show itself in your life. When people decide to get curious about how the wounding moments in life have impacted their self-worth and worldview, then healing can occur. You deserve to heal. And you deserve support through this process. I help people let go of shame, rediscover who they are, and find reasons to smile again. I would be honored to help discover what healing looks like for you, should you choose to no longer travel that path alone.

Greetings. I am Ebani Edwards, PRS-S, LPCC, CEO, and the founder of "counseling works". More than 80% of my clients state that they are participating in therapy because they have "no one else to talk to" or they "can't tell anybody about this". We are listening without judgment. We approach therapy holistically so we will address emotional, mental, and physical blockages. Therapy is a joint activity. You don't have to walk this journey alone. Remember, "counseling works, when you need a little more support".

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
