I identify as a White, able-bodied, cisgender
woman
who strives to provide compassionate client-centered therapy that acknowledges the unique identity and experience of each individual.
I work with adolescents (14+ y/o) and adults who are seeking individual, family, and couples therapy. Many of the adolescents and adults I work with experience general and social anxiety, grief, depression, PTSD, and may engage in self-harming behaviors or have suicidal ideation. I provide parent/ caregiver coaching to parents who want to improve the quality of their relationship with their children and learn skills of effective conflict management and limit setting. The couples I work with want to learn skills to improve their communication, manage conflict effectively, and rebuild trust and intimacy within their relationship.

Did something happen at work, life, or in your relationship that shook things up or shattered you? I'm extremely good at helping successful & results-oriented
women
& MEN who might otherwise NOT want to be in counseling feel comfortable.
Has it started to feel more like you are surviving life instead of living life? When stressors come from so many different directions, your life can start to resemble something you want to retreat from, not something you relish. It’s not surprising that you don’t feel like yourself, or maybe even like yourself, anymore. No wonder you spend more time in your head – your brain is probably desperately trying to find a way out of all this, a solution. Let me help. I show clients how they got here, as well as how to navigate a path out. Here, you can be honest about all the stickiest, raw parts of life and still feel valued.

My ideal client would be someone who would like to understand what life experiences helped to shape who they are and what they can learn from those experiences. They would like to know how to identify and build on their inner strengths and have someone understand them from a culturally sensitive perspective. Their goals would be to bring back a sense of harmony, balance and mental/emotional well-being and to learn skills to maintain a state of optimal functioning. They would want to raise their consciousness and understand themselves from a mind, body, spirit perspective, so they can be the highest expression of themselves.

Finding a way to live authentically, and stay grounded as you navigate the uncertainties and unknowns of life can be very challenging. As a Gestalt, body-oriented psychotherapist, and dancer, I utilize evidence-based, embodied-relational, and collaborative approaches to help you find your way. I will meet you with curiosity, openness, and a nonjudgemental stance. I will support increasing your awareness of your strengths, gifts, and uniqueness, while collaborating with you to identify habits and patterns that are no longer useful or effective in helping you meet your needs.

I love working with people who are curious about the world, and who turn their curiosity inward, too. My clients tend to be thoughtful, expressive people often at the cusp of changing the way that they relate to themselves and others. I help my clients, regardless of age, background, field of study or work, address the low mood and worry that keep them from moving toward more fully realizing their goals.

My approach to therapy is rooted in the belief that each individual is an expert regarding their own life and experiences. With that, I aim to collaborate with individuals in increasing awareness around their own strengths that can then be utilized as tools to create change to promote self empowerment and positive mental health outcomes.

Family dynamics can be one of the biggest challenges we face, and one of the most difficult things in our lives to manage. Relationships are hard, both with partners and with children. Do you find that your children sometimes feel like more of a burden than a joy? Are you finding your child's behaviors challenging or unmanageable? Maybe something is going on with your child that is more than "just a phase." Is parenting with your partner often stressful? Do you feel like you're not being heard and your relationship is unsatisfying? If you find that you are overwhelmed or consistently frustrated, maybe you need some support.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
