The past is present for all of us in so many ways. For those with trauma, this is especially true. It becomes the lens through which you see yourself and the world around you. Any experience of trauma can fundamentally change how your brain functions. Most adult mental illness can be traced back to traumatic life events and can be significantly improved with trauma focused therapy. While I have a wait list for weekly clients, I have availability for intensive EMDR sessions. This is a good option for people who are motivated to treat their trauma and and want to make progress quickly.

During these difficult times I strive to help others ground themselves in the present and utilize healthy ways of coping. I have worked with problems such as depression, anxiety, life transitions, loss, separation and relationship difficulties as well as more chronic and severe mental health concerns. I enjoy working with adults who are interested in reflecting on their most significant past and present relationships and life experiences in an attempt to deeply understand and manage current stressors.

From the outside, most people would think that nothing is wrong, but deep down you know that you're not feeling like yourself. In your daily life, you often pretend to be someone you’re not, all the while feeling anxious, panicky, or unhappy inside. This feeling can manifest itself through general anxiety, panic attacks, depression, anger, and other ways. You’ve tried to push those feelings away, or even bury them deep down, but over time they keep coming back, surfacing in unpleasant ways and it is having a negative effect on your daily life.

I’ve often likened “good therapy” to a “good massage”. You enter feeling tense and uncertain with the hope that you'll leave feeling more centered and able to take on what’s next. At times, you may need a gentle and compassionate approach; other times, you may need deeper work to really start the healing process. My primary goal in our work together is to utilize my 21 years of direct clinical experience and 10 years of experience as a clinical supervisor to improve your overall life satisfaction.

I believe that counseling doesn't come with a manual or a "cookie-cutter" approach. You are a person with feelings and thoughts unique to your own concerns and issues. I don't approach our counseling relationship based on your diagnosis or societal labels. I try to assist according to how you see your world and recognize that we all make different choices. We don't have to be held captive to a mental illness and I will help you try to find the "keys to those locks".

Transitional experiences are a part of life. Often we are able to fully embrace, celebrate or grieve and pass through these with relative ease. However if you find yourself in a struggle where mood is shifting, anxiety is increasing or if joy is missing from moments that should be joyful- if fear inhibits your desired growth or you struggle to find purpose or motivation-- maybe this is part of your life's journey where you allow yourself to be supported. I work from a strengths perspective, treating, diagnosing and offering opportunities for insight, growth and healing. Your story is the focus of care, your uniqueness is celebrated

Anxiety is high for most people right now, but when your usual coping skills are falling short and your normal supports are unavailable, learning ways to build or bolster your inner resources can be a lifesaver. When making a choice to seek therapy, establishing a relationship of trust, safety and respect with a trained and experienced practitioner is the first important step. My practice is open to adults at any stage of transition or life-stage, their families, friends and partners. I am a cis-gender woman with over 30 years of experience as a psychotherapist and advocate.

How can I find a therapist in Cincinnati?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the United States, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
