I work specifically with couples who have discovered infidelity . Couples are traumatized when infidelity is discovered and the clinician needs to help the couple implement immediate steps to prevent further damage to the relationship. Counselor strategies for infidelity are much different than what a traditional counselor would utilize. When couples set up an appointment with me, they will get in quickly, and experience a specific treatment approach for infidelity . I also help couples with creating intimate communication, conflict skills, creating emotional and sexual intimacy, and increasing love and affection.

Reasons to see a sex therapist include, but are not limited to: Sex life after transition (having children, menopause, injury, infidelity ), Sexual Shame, Low/ no desire, Pain during sex, Sex education, Desire discrepancies, Infertility, History of sexual abuse, Trauma, Lack of orgasm, Erectile dysfunction, Sexual identity issues, Sexual orientation issues.
As a sex therapist I often have clients tell me that being intimate with their partner has become another one of the responsibilities to check off the "To-Do" list; describing sex as a chore, or even a burden. Having sexual issues can have devastating effects on individuals and couples. There are many reasons why sex becomes an issue in relationships: sexual shame from their upbringing, pain during sex, trying to understand their sexuality and preferences or processing past trauma. Working with a professional in a safe & professional space to communicate their feelings & thoughts can have a huge impact.

This work is powerful for couples and individuals dealing with high stress, high conflict, infidelity , parenting, infertility, loss and all the emotional symptoms that come from these experiences such as depression, anxiety and loss of self.
My approach is to view problems or issues from a systemic perspective. That means I am curious about our key relationships past and present, the roles we play, the rules we follow, and where our identity and value systems come from. My passion is to make sense of the ways our internal experiences (relationship with self) and our external experiences (relationships with others) collide and inform one another. I strive to help people develop wholeness of self through unpacking anything that is keeping them stuck.

Infidelity Therapists

How does therapy for infidelity work?

A skilled infidelity therapist will provide a safe space for clients to communicate their feelings and concerns. The goal is to be completely honest about what led to the cheating and how it has affected the entire family to prevent it from recurring in the future. The therapist will help the clients work on rebuilding mutual trust and respect and developing better communication and conflict-resolution skills. If the goal is to remain a couple, clients will learn the “danger signs” for their specific relationship, and they will make a renewed commitment to be faithful.

How long does therapy for infidelity take?

Recovery from infidelity can take time, and it can vary from person to person. Generally, a therapist will want to see the clients at least once a week for around six months. Then the sessions can be arranged as needed, depending on the clients’ individual needs. While therapy may end or shift to an as-needed basis, it can take up to two years or more for some clients to fully recover from infidelity.

How does therapy help the partner who was cheated on?

When a client discovers their partner’s infidelity, their trust in the relationship and in the life they had together may be shattered. They often experience mental health symptoms, such as anxiety, depression, grief, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). They don’t always want to stay in the relationship; they may feel ambivalent or may even want to leave. Therapy gives these clients a safe and healthy way to communicate all of their complicated emotions and concerns.

How does therapy help the partner who committed infidelity?

Infidelity often occurs when one or both partners’ emotional needs are not being met in the relationship. Therapy can help this client understand why they cheated and figure out how to address those unmet needs without resorting to infidelity in the future. This can lessen (but not entirely eliminate) the risk of repeated infidelity. Clients who cheat may also feel intense guilt about deceiving their partners, a sentiment that they can work through in therapy.
