I bring a variety of work and life experiences to my counseling of individuals, couples, adolescents and families regarding issues of
grief
, trauma, anger management, life transitions, and management of stress, anxiety and depression.
Meeting with a counselor requires a lot of courage, so I have great respect for anyone who wants to start that journey. I will provide a non-judgmental space for you to identify your areas of concern and ultimately what you hope to change. Our goal is to build awareness together, so that you can make different choices instead of automatically doing the same things that no longer support you. We will work together to help you pay greater attention to your mind and body processes (i.e., a holistic approach) to facilitate a deeper connection with yourself and others.

I work with adults processing a variety of issues including trauma,
grief
, relationships, complicated life transitions, depression, anxiety, and more. We can tend to feel “stuck” during difficult periods of our lives, or even start to form negative beliefs about ourselves as a result of trauma. Thoughts such as “I’m not good enough”, “something is wrong with me”, or “I’m permanently damaged”, “I can’t trust myself or others” etc.

I believe a holistic approach, mind, body and spirit, provides the best treatment for mental health issues and leads to healing. In a non-judgmental climate of welcome and acceptance, I incorporate an eclectic approach including creative interventions, cognitive behavioral therapy, insight-oriented therapy,
grief
therapy, to name a few. I work with adults only and can provide networking and resources outside of therapy, as needed. My experiences in providing services in crisis intervention, community mental health and in physician offices have created a richness for my private practice.

Most of us will experience significant mental distress, trauma,
loss
, and
grief
at some point; however, we often feel that we have to go through it alone. While our world stops, everyone else seems to continue moving, and that can feel isolating, overwhelming, and out of control. Whether you just need someone to be with you and listen with empathy and without judgment, are looking to learn skills to feel back in control of our mental well-being, or want to grow to improve your relationship with yourself and others, my hope is to provide these to you in a safe and inviting environment.

Specializing in complicated
grief
and the transition into motherhood. Typically when we think of
loss
, we only think of
death
. In reality, we experience a variety of losses throughout our life such as the
loss
of a relationship,
loss
of a job...the list goes on. It's normal to have an emotional response to these events. However, if you've experienced an especially devastating
loss
, if your emotional response to the
loss
is prolonged or extreme, or your relationship with a lost person was complicated or unhealthy, you may need more than just time to heal.

I have experience in adoption, chronic and terminal illness and
grief
.
I have been a psychotherapist for over 25 years. I provide a nurturing environment where we can safely explore difficult issues. I have a highly interactive approach and believe that the best results come from a strong therapeutic relationship. Many of the people I work with are the "walking wounded" - 'regular folks' feeling that they are not dealing well with the stresses of everyday life. Other people I work with have a history of chronic mental health issues, such as depression, anxiety, and bi-polar disorder.

So often we experience stressors and losses in our lives. Often these are due to changes and transitions in life and sometimes it’s after the
loss
of a loved one. Adjusting to those shifts can often be challenging. I hope we can work together to find the healthiest journey for you. Each person's life path is unlike anyone else's. This might be the first step in your unique journey to reach out for support and guidance.

I offer support to clients that are experiencing
grief
.
I am a licensed professional counselor in the state of Ohio. I studied counseling because I wanted to help others maintain their mental wellness and regain their mental health during difficult times. I view mental health as a normal part of life. As such you don’t have to seek my services only when you are struggling. You could come to counseling to discuss issues, feelings, and matters of your everyday life or to organize your ideas or gain clarity about your life or aspects of your life. You can also come to therapy because you are struggling with anxiety or adjusting to a new dynamic or event in your life.

I specialize in working with those who wish to improve relationships, who are recovering from
loss
, who are in psychological pain, who may be caring for a family member, or who are trying to cope with change and transition in their life cycle.
Psychotherapy is not only about relieving mental distress. It is also about increasing resilience, wholeness, wellness, and improving relationships. I believe the therapist's job is to offer a safe place for healing - a place where an individual, couple, or family can be listened to with skill and respect. In the process of establishing a safe relationship and setting realistic goals, people grow and change according to their abilities. People are the "experts" of their own lives. I believe in the interdependence of the generations in families and in the human community.

If trauma, a life transition, a personal or relationship crisis, a
loss
, or difficulties with depression or anxiety is causing you to struggle with functioning in a happy and healthy way, let’s talk.
Life changes. Some life changes can be anticipated or predicted; some occur spontaneously, without notice or warning. Regardless of how they occur, all require adaptation and adjustment to what is different or new. We seldom have much difficulty with small changes—those that don’t disrupt a familiar lifestyle or a solid sense of self. Other life changes can be more challenging, sometimes making navigation from the present uncertain, frightening, and maybe even overwhelming. The counseling process can promote successful transitioning and significant personal growth in the course of life changes.

Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
