Family Consultation.
Life's challenges bring us to our knees. At stressful times, a Licensed Professional Counselor, "LPC", helps. Confused, searching for answers, unsure of where to turn? Email cincypsychcenter@gmail.com. My work with courts, hospitals & schools helps. I have "been there" -- I "get it". In 1990 as a full-time Univ. of Cincinnati employee, I earned my Master's Degree in Mental Health Counseling (diagnosis & treatment of mental & emotional disorders) before earning my Doctorate (Univ. of Dayton) in my 20's as a full-time UD employee. As Practice Owner & Miami Univ (OH) DBT Clinician, research and evidence shows us that DBT works.

I use attachment and systems theory to help clients understand the impact of life experiences and family -of-origin, with the goals of healing trauma and living their best, SoPerfect Life!.
I am currently taking new telehealth clients for sex therapy, couples therapy and trauma therapy. My ideal client wants to heal. With all the trauma from the past few years, self-work has never been more necessary and normalized. Coming out of a global pandemic, with relationships and sex lives suffering, we all need to be intentional about rebuilding emotional, mental and sexual health. Whether you’re trying to heal from trauma, improve communication and intimacy in your relationship(s), explore polyamory or consensual non monogamy, or explore sexual and/or gender identity, I believe I can help you to achieve your personal goals.

As a Collaborative Divorce Coach and Family Mediator, I have dedicated my work to assisting parents in the process of peacefully transitioning their families through their divorce with greater dignity and respect and less misunderstandings.
For over 25 years, my work has focused on individuals, couples and families. I focus primarily on the marital and parenting relationship. All relationships are fertile ground for personal growth and improved understanding of self. Relationships are places where emotional triggers are experienced which can cause feelings of stress and vulnerability. I help my clients understand how relationships are places where greater self awareness can be developed with an increased understanding into who you are and what is important. Finding greater peace lies in the ability to solve personal conflicts, honestly express feelings and develop greater understanding of others.

Been everywhere, tried everything and worked with everyone specializing in the treatment of disordered eating and you are still not better? My approach is different. When diets don't work, residential treatment has failed and your family members are frustrated with you as if it were somehow your fault, you need a different approach. I look at the problem from a bio-psycho-social perspective. In other words, I look at the role that food plays, the family dynamic and the social pressures. Because of my success rate with extremely difficult cases, I'm considered the go-to therapist by local professionals. Welcome home!

After experiencing the impact it had on my personal and family life, I wanted to make it a focus of the help I provide.
It's a tough spot to be in when you don't know how to fix your problems. The more lost you feel, the more overwhelmed you get. You probably think something is wrong with you. Your relationships and work are suffering. The thing about it all is that you're not alone. Men tend to be at a loss when it comes to dealing with their emotions and not knowing what to do with problems that never seem to get better. There's actually nothing wrong with you. You just need a few things to learn about who you are.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
