I recognize the discomfort some experience when reaching out for help, but as a naturally empathic, socially intuitive, and respectfully curious person, it is my mission to build an authentic and open client-therapist
relationship
where you feel seen, heard, understood, and comfortable to be your true self in a safe environment free from judgment.
I guide my clients to identify the emotions behind protective reaction. This improves their ability to recognize emotional needs, communicate more effectively, and begin leading a life within their conscious mind. Adversity and trauma can lead to chronic emotional deregulation, and through emotion focused therapy, DBT, mindfulness and psycho education I guide clients through the healing process. Attachment wounds and painful life experiences can lead to living in chronic protection mode. Through collaboration, compassion, and acceptance, I guide my clients to deeper connection; not only with others, but also with themselves.

Lastly, I work with individuals and
couples
who are living or exploring polyamory/consensual non-monogamy.
I am a licensed professional counselor in the state of Ohio. I studied counseling because I wanted to help others maintain their mental wellness and regain their mental health during difficult times. I view mental health as a normal part of life. As such you don’t have to seek my services only when you are struggling. You could come to counseling to discuss issues, feelings, and matters of your everyday life or to organize your ideas or gain clarity about your life or aspects of your life. You can also come to therapy because you are struggling with anxiety or adjusting to a new dynamic or event in your life.

I bring a variety of work and life experiences to my counseling of individuals,
couples
, adolescents and families regarding issues of grief, trauma, anger management, life transitions, and management of stress, anxiety and depression.
Meeting with a counselor requires a lot of courage, so I have great respect for anyone who wants to start that journey. I will provide a non-judgmental space for you to identify your areas of concern and ultimately what you hope to change. Our goal is to build awareness together, so that you can make different choices instead of automatically doing the same things that no longer support you. We will work together to help you pay greater attention to your mind and body processes (i.e., a holistic approach) to facilitate a deeper connection with yourself and others.

By knowing yourself better and how your past has impacted you, it will allow you to let go of the stuff that keeps you feeling stuck or disconnected from others and afford you the opportunity to have a deeper
relationship
with yourself and with others.
Do you struggle with any of the following....keeping it all together for the outside world, yet inside you feel different – tired, stressed, overwhelmed? COVID-19 fatigue has become a reality and you've had enough? Thinking other people have it worse and you need to suck it up? Wanting to experience deep relationships with others, yet something holds you back? Rationally you believe positive aspects about yourself, but sometimes an inner voice tells you different and makes you feel defeated? You desire more, yet fear keeps you from making changes? If any of this strikes a chord, let me help you on your journey towards healing.

Not every therapist is for a client and not every client for a therapist. The Client-Clinician
relationship
is of greatest importance. I work with a variety of populations, presenting issues, and within different realms of interventions and theories. It is not a one shoe fits all. I meet the client where they are and work accordingly. Now that is not to say I do not nudge gently with a soft challenge. If I didn't I would not be doing my work, nor the service you (and everyone) deserves! I utilize animals within therapy work in sessions.

I believe in utilizing therapy as an opportunity to assist individuals,
couples
, and families in acknowledging and overcoming barriers to healing and change. I create an authentic, collaborative and non-judgmental therapeutic space where clients are able to address areas in life that aren't working (anxiety, anger, depression, low self-esteem, relationships, painful experiences); to explore and resolve the internal and relational barriers that limits healing and personal growth; and to create an action plan that empowers clients to live out their full potential.

I honor and value the therapeutic process and
relationship
.
I’ve often likened “good therapy” to a “good massage”. You enter feeling tense and uncertain with the hope that you'll leave feeling more centered and able to take on what’s next. At times, you may need a gentle and compassionate approach; other times, you may need deeper work to really start the healing process. My primary goal in our work together is to utilize my 21 years of direct clinical experience and 10 years of experience as a clinical supervisor to improve your overall life satisfaction.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
