My psychotherapy practice offers a safe, welcoming environment to actively work on your health and well-being. We will collaboratively establish our goals in therapy, and pace our sessions to match your needs. I offer both psychotherapy and psychoeducational assessment services. Psychotherapy sessions focus on growth-oriented issues even when addressing adjustment and mental health concerns. Assessment services are geared toward answering specific referral questions, usually to do with academic aptitude and school/college accommodations.

Waitlist for new clients
I have worked with a wide range of clients in schools and hospitals, as well as private office settings. I try to understand each person's problems as influenced by their unique patterns of relating with self , others, and the natural world. I help you explore these patterns on an emotional level rather than simply intellectually. If you are interested, we will also work with your particular spiritual orientation, or help you find a spiritual path, as part of the healing process. Decreasing your suffering, and helping you find deeper meaning and more zest in life, are important goals in each therapy session.

This might be a particularly rough time in your life and you don't know which way is up. Maybe you want to find out what direction in life you truly want to be headed. Your mind may be going a mile a minute. Mental health challenges can look like many different things, but you're still the expert on your own experience; You deserve a moment to chart your own course.

Now Accepting New Clients. I am verified and endorsed by colleagues and clients. Clients choose me or are referred to me because I adapt to each client individually. To put it simply, therapeutic alliance is the bond between a therapist and their client. Research shows that the client-clinician relationship is the most important predictor of positive outcomes in treatment. Over the years I've helped people restore their desire for overall health by leaving sessions with something to help. Counseling is a big commitment but you are worth it. If you can benefit from an honest and direct approach, I'd love to help.

Prior to the start of my career I knew, “I want to help people,” and that is now my primary therapy goal with you. I really enjoy working with individuals who are healing from trauma, relational hurt, or just some of the natural hurt and confusion that comes with each stage of life. I also enjoy helping individuals as they evolve and discover themselves and various aspects of their identity and am passionate about multiracial identity development. Therefore, I see individuals for a wide variety of presenting problems, including trauma, anxiety, depression, identity development, multiracial issues, and much more.

My specialties include navigating neurodivergent, transgender, and queer identities, as well as tackling issues related to autism and ADHD. Existing in a neurotypical, cishetero world, you likely feel pressure to be a certain way or meet certain expectations. As a result, you may be carrying feelings of shame, depression, anxiety, or self-hatred. Celebrating who you are or feeling pride or confidence might feel out of reach. I work with people to explore these sorts of problems and to create room for joy, celebration, and pride.

In 2005 NAMI awarded me their "Excellence in Mental Health Therapy" award. I was one of ten chosen to be taught by psychiatrist in my master's program. I have worked in hospitals, medical centers and in community agencies for twenty years before I went into private practice. I believe that patients have the answer within themselves and often need validation that their thought process and choices are those of a responsible mature adult. I use CBT and DBT in a conversational format. I believe your story is worth listening to without judgment.

Are you hurting so much that you're wondering if living is really worth all this pain? It hurts so bad that it feels physical; you can feel it in your gut. You don't let those closest to you know what's going on because no one gets it; no one can help. Sometimes you feel completely out of place, like you don't belong here. Everything hurts so much and you can't stand it anymore. You keep looking for ways to take it all away. You don't deserve to hurt like this anymore. And you don't have to. It's time to take control of your emotions so your emotions stop controlling you.

Currently Accepting New Clients. As someone who has been in the client chair before, I understand how difficult it can be to decide whether counseling is the right first step for you or how intimidating it is to discuss life’s hardships with another person. However, I can also attest to the benefits that counseling can produce in one’s life if given the proper time, effort, and care. Mental health is an integral component of overall health and well-being, and my goal as a counselor is to ease people through tough transition periods and to assist in cultivating meaningful lives.

I work with late adolescents, individuals and couples. Sexual and relationship issues are a major part of my practice as I am a certified sex therapist. Over the years I have helped hundreds of individuals and couples deal with issues of intimacy and sexuality. In addition, I am a forensic psychologist, meaning I conduct psychological evaluations in most of the forensic areas including child custody, personal injury, and disability. This is very satisfying, if challenging work. Psychologists make meaningful contributions to the legal arena and I have extensive experience as an expert witness.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Cincinnati?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
