Attachment-based Therapists in Centerville, OH
After years of providing a broad range of services in the context of a traditional private practice office, which I closed at the end of 2017, I began doing therapy online. I decided to offer online services to maintain a limited professional practice, available to select clients for whom such a service delivery platform would be appropriate. Services are available to children, youth, adults, and families at the rate of $75 per 45-minute session and are payable via PayPal. I accept NO insurance, only self-pay clients.

Hi! I’m Emely Jones. I'm a passionate and empathetic mental health therapist who believes in the power of personal growth, healing, health, and a little humor (when appropriate). I'm dedicated to fostering a warm, friendly environment, by working alongside clients to unlock their inner resilience and create meaningful, lasting change in their lives. I'm also a married mom of a wonderful 2-year-old son. Some of my preferred mental health coping skills include great sleep, kitchen concerts (I love to sing), exercise, a good mystery novel or TV show, a healthy meal, and a cozy meditation.

My favorite quote is from The Little Prince, "the eyes are blind. One must look with the heart." Often in the midst of our pain and struggle we react to circumstances with little or no thought. We allow ourselves to be directed by the world instead of identifying what we need and know in our heart. To identify what we need, know what our heart wants, and have a plan to follow is what therapy is all about. We must work through the pain to identify these things; accept that we deserve them, and develop a plan to achieve them.

I AM NOT CURRENTLY ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS!!! I have extensive experience (over 18 years) working with children and adolescents with attention and behavior problems, anxiety, depression, autism spectrum symptoms, social issues, learning and school-related issues, and adjustment problems. I believe collaborating with schools, family members and other treatment providers is an important component of comprehensive treatment. The relationship between a therapist and client is often one of the most important factors in change, so I work hard to put my clients at ease from the first session.

My treatment philosophy is based on our capacity to heal. My primary means of treatment is EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). EMDR reprocesses traumatic memories. Our brains use thought patterns to bring ideas, feelings and sensations to the forefront without discrimination. In instances of unresolved trauma, our ability to move forward in our lives is blocked, because thought patterns allow past trauma to continue to be replayed as if happening in the present. I collaborate with my clients via EMDR to reprocess trauma, allowing the brain to let natural healing occur.

I connect best with individuals who feel and think deeply but struggle to understand or communicate their emotional world to others. You may feel misunderstood, “too much,” or alone in your experiences. You might long for close relationships but find yourself caught in painful or repeating patterns.
Many of my clients have experienced attachment wounds, childhood trauma, Complex PTSD, or symptoms of Borderline Personality Disorder. You may feel overwhelmed by intense emotions or fear abandonment and rejection. At your core, you want to feel secure, understood, and accepted — both by others and within yourself.

Attachment-based Therapists
Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?
Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.
What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?
Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.
How long does attachment-based therapy last?
Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.
Does attachment-based therapy work?
Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
