With over 30 years of experience in the mental health and addiction fields, I provide a seasoned, compassionate perspective for adults and teenagers navigating complex trauma, sudden loss, and emotional dysregulation.
Stepping into therapy for the first time can feel like a lot, so I like to keep things as straightforward and relaxed as possible. My goal for our first meeting isn't to quiz you or fill out endless forms—it's just to get to know you and make sure you feel heard.

I believe counseling doesn't need to be a lengthy process so I use results-oriented therapeutic approaches such as Solution-Oriented Brief Therapy and EMDR Therapy. My ideal clients fall into one of two categories: Individuals who struggle with the effects of Sexual Abuse, Trauma, or PTSD; and Families: Blended Families, Affair Recovery, Couples Counseling, Sexual Intimacy Issues, and Family Counseling. I also do Family Relationship Counseling or Reunification Counseling with families involved in High-Conflict Divorce or Reunification cases.

I've been working with adolescents, families and couples for 20 years.
I’m an LISW-S, Licensed Independent Social Worker (I.1700618) with Supervision designation, in the state of Ohio. I’ve spent the last 20 years working with children and families who are facing personal life challenges. I believe individuals are the experts of their own lives, but sometimes need help navigating difficult experiences, emotions, and circumstances. Everyone, at some point in life, experiences a challenge they struggle to overcome. It could be a loss, emotions associated with an event, a life change, or other personal struggles. Sometimes we need to learn new or more effective ways to manage those life challenges.

One unique specialty I have is working with neurodivergent individuals, whether it be autism, ADHD, trauma, etc. I am both autistic and ADHD myself, and have an autistic child. This puts me in a unique position to truly understand what parents may be struggling with, but also offer a different perspective from your neurotypical therapist. My ideal clientele consist of neurodivergent individuals, parents raising autistic children, and family members of neurodivergent individuals. I am a very laid back therapist, but also firm on boundaries and in necessary parts of treatment.

Everything feels so heavy, and all the emotions are exhausting, making it feel like you have to manage them on your own. Anxiety can be debilitating and overwhelming, but you don’t have to face it alone. True healing often begins when we slow down and meet ourselves with compassion.

I believe that everyone is the master of their own life. As a counselor, my role is to explore and guide my clients in recognizing and utilizing their strengths, while supporting them as they navigate through challenging times. I feel privileged to witness each client’s unique journey toward healing and growth. As an immigrant from Taiwan, I understand the cultural barriers that can impact mental health. I am fluent in Mandarin and Taiwanese, in addition to English, which allows me to connect with a diverse range of clients more deeply and authentically.

FAQ - Teenage and Adolescent Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
