I’m a psychological scientist and clinical counselor. I enjoy working with clients, especially men, on life changes. I also enjoy working with clients to overcome anxiety and distorted ways of thinking that breed negative self talk and self criticism. Hello, my name is Jennifer Kinzer and I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) and Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP). I have a Bachelor’s of Science, specializing in Christian Education and Pastoral Counseling, and graduated from Liberty University, completing a Master’s in Professional Counseling. It is my honor and privilege to work with individuals of all ages, helping them as they transition through difficult life situations, improve interpersonal relationships, learn how to make lifestyle changes, and employ coping techniques to manage mental illness and emotional difficulties.

Life can be an emotional roller coaster, and sometimes we feel stuck, out of control, or hopeless. We can feel inadequate and misunderstood.. What makes us successful are the coping skills we learn to use, the ability to set boundaries, and proper communication. Together, we will create a plan to address what’s holding you back, and at the same time enhance your strengths. I prefer to meet with my clients on a weekly basis, which is typically the most effective way for you to meet your treatment goals. The length of treatment varies with each individual or couple, which we can discuss together.

If I were to say if I had a type of client, it would someone that wants help. If there is a need for me to work harder than the person coming for the therapy session, then maybe they just might not yet be ready to address some of the deeper-rooted issues that led them to step out and ask for help. I know I try to remain more attuned and aware that the readiness to change is key to the success of therapy for a client. I want to work in tandem with the person to reach the goals they have set for themselves.

I specialize in anxiety, depression, ADHD, various forms of addiction, autism, & more. I'm not sure I have an ideal client. I believe in meeting a person where they are and moving forward from there. I feel people often come to therapy to help find the best version of themselves. I enjoy helping others find solutions to their problems, helping them identify their strengths, and deciding how to improve their weaknesses.

My ideal client is open about their issues and needs and motivated to work through them. My client's goal will be to build a foundation of good mental health that they can carry with them for the rest of their lives and use to improve their own lives as well as their family and friends. My ideal client comes to therapy because they want to be there and value what they can learn from their therapist and themselves.

I enjoy being able to use my skills and training to help people who are hurting, whether they are experiencing things such as depression, anxiety, grief, or relationship issues. I aim to deeply connect with my clients and understand their feelings, as well as whatever situation they find themselves in. I accept them exactly where they are, and I work to understand where they want to go as part of therapy.
