I have experience working with individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, ADHD, life transitions, and substance use.
You're sitting on the couch trying to motivate yourself to get up and moving. You have so much to do and all of it important but you just... can't. You feel overwhelmed and you don't know where to start. You're exhausted and it's time for a change. You want to get through your day without becoming overwhelmed and shutting down. You'd like to tackle your day to day tasks without that little voice in the back of your head being so critical. You think it would also feel wonderful to actually enjoy life and take time for yourself without feeling guilty or selfish. I can help you get there.

She screens all patients for ADD and substance abuse and treats these issues.
No, this suffering you live with is not all there is for you. You are suffering for reasons that can be identified and resolved in psychotherapy. If you could have figured it out on your own, you would have already, because you have really tried. You do not need "coping strategies" or suggestions or other superficial band aids for your pain, you need to understand what about you is functioning well and what isn't, and to develop the self-awareness, self-knowledge, and emotional competence that will get you out of this pain into the life you want to live.

My therapist taught me how to love myself—and by extension, my life partner, my kids, and everyone else! It is possible, no matter where you're starting from, to have less inner conflict, less outer conflict, and more love, peace, calm, and creativity in your life. And if you’re a woman with ADHD, I can help with that too. Your life doesn’t have to feel chaotic, and you don’t have to call yourself names (lazy, careless, stupid) to get things done. Whether I see you one-on-one or with an important other, I will meet you with compassion, hope, and acceptance. Because we all deserve not just to survive, but to thrive.

I see a limited number of people per week to keep my practice person-centered around you. There are available hours for most needs, including evenings. My private practice, The Open Gate is exclusively telehealth. In today’s world, people are overextended and trying to find balance. My walk is all about balance and finding the path that best matches your needs. I want to help people who are motivated for change and can benefit from support and strategies.

Whew! You made it! I know it took a lot for you to get here but I promise you, you have made a brave decision. Reaching out for help is not as easy as some people make it out to be, right? Not feeling quite like yourself, huh? I get it. No, really. Life can throw some harsh blows at you and can make you feel alone. You could be struggling with anxiety, depression, or grief and feel stuck. Or you could need direction for your career, school, or relationship. Whatever it is, allow me to walk along side you on your journey.

I work with adults and adolescents, and I take an eclectic and holistic approach to help with concerns that may include mental health, stress, trauma, grief, addiction, relationships, or adjusting to life changes. This may be a matter of short-term counseling to strengthen coping skills or overcome a specific challenge, or more in-depth therapy to better understand and resolve deeper patterns and issues.

I have experience working with individuals struggling with trauma, addiction, anxiety, depression, and ADHD.
You feel like you’re trapped in a maze of emotions. You’re constantly being pulled between moments of intense distress and moments of numb detachment. Fear, anger, and sadness keep you from feeling any sense of stability or peace. You’re struggling to trust others and nothing feels safe. You’re feeling exhausted and isolated and it’s time for a change. You want to get through your day without being constantly on edge, waiting for the next intrusive thought to appear. You’d like to enjoy life without constant worry or fear. You think it would also feel wonderful to achieve a sense of inner peace. I can help you get there.

Hi! My name is Tara and I am the owner of Peace of Mind Counseling Service. I am a licensed professional counselor in Ohio with 7 years of clinical experience. Positive mental health is fundamental to living a healthy well-balanced life. Although the general perception of mental health has improved in recent times, people can still be fearful of the negative stigma that is attached to mental health illnesses. This can add to the anxiety and fear of seeking mental health treatment. I can provide treatment and coping skills to manage life stressors while showing clients respect and support in a therapeutically safe environment.

ADHD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?

You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?

Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

Are there specific medications for ADHD?

Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?

It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
