I specialize in strength-based, client centered approaches coupled with evidence-based (DBT/CBT) techniques and various systemic treatment modalities that allow room for understanding the totality of each individual I encounter ( couples and families included).
My ideal client is someone that is ready to get out of their own way! They are tired of their own excuses and have the strength to humble themselves to the therapy process. Therapy is not a quick fix, if done correctly, you will feel more, learn more, grow more, and work harder than you have ever done to achieve the best version of yourself you have ever been. My ideal client is dedicated, and consistent with themselves and their motivation to change. In exchange, I can promise that I will always match your effort, I will challenge you to challenge yourself, and will hold you accountable to be the catalyst of change in your own life

Whether your current state is a response to the impact of the pandemic, a build up of stress, or sensing an inability to cope, together we will work to achieve a sense of well-being and stabilization. Treatable concerns include: mood and relational difficulty, trauma, family dynamics, grief, poor relationship with food, low self-worth, self-injury, depression, anxiety, and compulsions. Do you feel emotionally defeated? Are you a family member, or is your marriage in crisis? I offer older teens, adults, and couples effective strategies that give hope. I believe a Therapist must provide a safe, non-judgmental environment where a client feels free to engage in the treatment process that leads to emotional healing, restoration, and life transformation. I am committed to providing that environment so that you can enter into that process, and together we can discuss those challenges as we work on mutually agreed-upon solutions.

It has been my privilege to help people develop lives that are deeply meaningful and emotionally satisfying. Psychotherapy is not a set of tricks or techniques. Rather, it is a personal relationship that affects people on a number of levels. Most of my clients come away from the process with some new practical skills and new, more adaptive ways of looking at life. They also hone their capacities to look at themselves, with more insight and greater self-understanding. Particularly rewarding for me has been my work with families, assisting them in healing from the wounds and fractures of divorce.

I believe that the most powerful part of the therapeutic relationship is in the human connection. It is in this connection that the creative and dynamic process of change begins. I value each client's individual narrative and offer a peaceful environment to address aspects of life that may prevent you from recognizing your capacity for healing. Whether you are negotiating life losses, feelings of anxiety and depression or adjustment to life challenges, I see my role as compassionate listener and guide. I will quietly challenge you to move beyond negative patterns of thought. My approach while directive is holistic, and supportive.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
