I work with adults experiencing OCD, phobias, anxiety, depression, family dysfunction, grief and loss, trauma, and individuals touched by adoption.
Are life’s stressors impacting your sense of joy, your family life, or other relationships? Are you struggling with worry or sadness that seems to keep you down? Do you feel as though you are alone in handling some of the challenges that life has put in front of you? Anxiety and depression can immobilize us, leaving us feeling a loss of control and sometimes we just can't make things better on our own. My training and 20+ years of experience prepared me to work with people of all cultures, ethnic backgrounds. I want to understand not only who you are as a person, but also how your background and experiences shape your life.

You are busy, hardworking, and known to be capable. On the outside, you’ve got it together but on the inside you’re wondering how to keep your head above water. Stress, anxiety, or distress from obsessive-compulsive (OCD) disorder is too much to take on alone. You're saying "yes" more than you should and losing track of who you are while you succeed in making things ok for everyone else. You have a mind that you can’t turn off and you could really use a moment of peace. Emotions are coming up and out at times you didn't plan. It's hard to be joyful because you wonder, "when is the other shoe going to drop?" Something’s got to give.

I teach coping skills and mindset shifts to manage relationship issues, anxiety, OCD, and general life dissatisfaction.
Do you struggle to prioritize yourself? Are you tired of being at the bottom of your own list of people to take care of? Maybe you're always looking toward the next goal to help you feel at peace, but it never quite does. You've worked hard to get to where you are, only to feel confused because your success and putting others first hasn't made you feel content. You're struggling with your relationships, anxiety, and overall you're feeling dissatisfied with your life. This can be frustrating, but things can get better.

I specialize in working with those aged 12+ suffering from OCD, intrusive thoughts, Trich, and/or Tourette's syndrome.
It is common to feel trapped by our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, and we often struggle to identify the impact they have on our well-being until it feels too overwhelming to handle. This is particularly true for those suffering from OCD behaviors. My goal is to create a safe and supportive space where clients can explore their thoughts and behaviors to better understand the impact they have on their well-being. I work collaboratively with clients to establish a plan of care that draws from evidence-based approaches. My role as a counselor is to be a partner in helping clients move through, not around, concerns in their way.

My experience has focused around PTSD and anxiety disorders, including panic disorder, OCD, and social anxiety.
The struggles that bring people in therapy are myriad and each person’s situation is unique. As such, my treatment philosophy is that our work together should be driven by your goals and informed by your strengths. I look forward to getting to know you and helping you navigate any of the challenges you carry with you. Although I am a big proponent of evidence-based treatments, I believe the core of any good therapeutic experience is a strong relationship and I hope to accomplish this through warmth, humor, and transparency.

I have vast knowledge in working with clients with general anxiety, social anxiety, and OCD.
Sometimes life gets hard and we just want someone to listen and help guide us through in the healthiest and safest way possible. I am a psychotherapist who has done just that for many clients in the 15 plus years I have been in practice. My first priority is to help you feel safe and comfortable in working with me. I am an eclectic therapist that uses different techniques and modalities because I believe every client’s needs are individualized. I am a laid-back therapist that can bring humor into session when appropriate but I am also able to be direct in what I see and what I feel the best treatment needs are.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
