Have you ever felt like you were different but couldn’t explain why? Perhaps you have never fit in, felt like a misfit, were bullied or have always worked very hard to feel accepted. My hope for you is you can unmask in therapy as I come alongside you in your healing process. I counsel neurodivergent, autistic and highly sensitive people and women suffering from premenstrual dysphoric disorder. I don’t have all the answers but will help you to better understand yourself, regulate your emotions and tolerate uncertainty and change in a world that is unpredictable and chaotic.

I work with adults striving to respond with integrity and effectiveness to many life issues--particularly related to work, career, relationship, and mid-life challenges. My clients include adults dealing with depression, anxiety, performance impairment, stress-related conditions, as well as those choosing to "raise their game." Regardless of their reason for seeking therapy, many of my clients bring important resources rooted in their personal journey of faith or search for meaning. If spiritual aspects of your life are important, I invite you to share that in our work together.

The simple fact you are seeking help through therapy is tremendously hopeful. You are half way there! My approach in therapy is to provide a safe, non-judgmental environment to identify what it is you need to create more resolution, meaning and happiness in your life. We will co-create a plan to achieve these broader goals through your daily living, how you relate with others and how you think. Therapy can be a powerful way to transform yourself (and your challenges) into living more fully, and with more in-depth understanding of who you truly are. Email is the best way to reach me.

Life is ever changing and evolving. At times change brings with it a sense of excitement and joy, and at other times a turn of events leaves us disappointed, overwhelmed, sad, or disconnected from others and ourselves. Although therapy cannot stop the ups and downs of living, it can help us develop new strategies, new perceptions, and new behaviors that transform feelings of self-doubt and despair into resilient feelings of inner strength and fulfillment. I provide a safe, confidential and caring environment, and bring a heartfelt and genuine approach to support you in finding joy and inner peace.

Therapy should be highly adaptable to each individual and not one size fits all. I am focused on supporting adult clients experiencing various mental and behavioral health needs, with a particular fondness for folks hoping to improve their self image, explore coping for anxiety and stress, process developmental trauma, address relationship concerns and enact desired behavior changes. My overall hope is to empower you through whatever shifts life brings your way and encourage you on the path that is uniquely your own.

Throughout my 20+ years of providing therapy, my focus has increasingly been on supporting clients in realizing their potential. Each of us has a purpose: a gift we can offer to others that is unique to us. Attempting to emulate someone else robs the world of you. Minimizing the influence others have on you is essential to reaching your optimum capacity. Actively listening to others’ feedback while maintaining your reality is paramount to becoming an authentic adult.

Thoughts, feelings and behaviors, which we often aren't even aware of, can keep us cycling in painful patterns of suffering, and may deepen those patterns over time. Through exploring our experience in a safe and compassionate space, we have the opportunity to see more clearly the patterns that aren't supporting our wellness or allowing us to live in line with what's truly valuable to us, and learn tools that move us toward a more fulfilling existence, regardless of how difficult our life circumstances may feel to us.

Have you ever heard of the term "Kintsugi" before? It's an ancient Japanese art form wherein an artist takes the broken pieces of a vase, and mends the cracks back together to restore the art piece. Each crack is then highlighted with strokes of shimmery, golden paint. Kintsugi encourages the artist to heartily and radically embrace the pottery's scars to reveal a new and enriched beauty. I have always been inspired by the redeeming process of the Kintsugi art, especially as it relates to counseling. The very art form itself seems to question why brokenness should invalidate worth, pride, beauty, and value.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
