My goal in helping people is simple-To address the struggle or help you solve the problem that you present. This can take so many different shapes; mood, relationship difficulties, motivation problems, the need for referral for medication and much more. I try to personalize my attention to each individual.

In private practice since 2006, I continue to feel honored to get to know my clients. My hope with each person is that we will create a space together in which a unique healing relationship may unfold. To facilitate that space, I tend to focus on your feelings and how they are held in the body; on past experiences and how they relate to current feelings and relational patterns; on how relational patterns may be being repeated within the therapy; on the richness of your internal world (that emerges, for example, in dreams, daydreams, artwork, etc.); and on awareness itself, within which all of the above happens.

I have spent the past few years specializing in OCD treatment. Although I do still see clients who are referred for Exposure and Response Prevention therapy, I am moving toward working on helping people find happiness and fulfillment in their lives, particularly as we head into more challenging environmental and political times. Because I spent 3 decades living and working overseas, I have come to view this work through a multi-cultural lens and consider the workings of the world to be impactful in all our lives.

For my client's struggling with OCD I offer the opportunity to engage in Exposure Response Prevention, ERP, which is an evidence based exposure treatment that challenges the rituals, compulsions and anxiety that dominate and control people's lives.
Being a human is not easy. We search for our meaning, our purpose, all while the world spins a web of uncertainty making it hard to feel safe and leaving us feeling anxious, hopeless, and estranged from what makes us happy. My goal as a therapist has always been to support my clients, both teenagers and adults, in looking at their lives to identify their meaning and purpose. I am of the firm belief that confronting those things that are hardest, with the support of others, can break the overwhelm of anxiety, the frustrations of ADHD, and the domination of OCD.

My expertise is in working with anxiety, OCD, depression, and other difficulties, including life transitions, perfectionism, doubt/indecision, insomnia, and more. I earned my PhD in Clinical Psychology from Yale University and specialize in evidence-based therapies (i.e., ACT, ERP, and mindfulness-based CBT). In addition to being the gold-standard anxiety treatments, these approaches provide valuable tools for anyone interested in enhancing well-being and personal growth. Together, we will explore new ways to respond to thoughts and feelings and make behavioral changes, with more flexibility, awareness, self-compassion, and purpose.

I specialize in working with anxiety, depression, trauma, communication disorders, adjustment disorders, ADD (both hyperactive and inattentive types), OCD, and ASD in ages 4 years old and up.
I currently have online individual sessions and some limited in person sessions available. Openings range between 9am and 6:30pm. I work collaboratively with clients to process where they are in life, evaluate what their current needs are, and identify what in their past and present could be addressed to make changes towards identified goals. I believe the therapeutic process can only work with dedication and the willingness to allow change. I work with my clients to identify ways that they can bring what we process in session into their everyday life so they have something to work on in between session.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
