Young adulthood is an exciting time, but it can also be an overwhelming experience. Many young adults experience social anxiety as they focus on new friendships and dating. Others stress about surviving college or committing to a career path. Faith issues become a source of concern for some. For those who are married or in a relationship, connecting with another person emotionally and intimately can be a struggle. Creating a new identity as a young adult can also reawaken old problems from past abuse/traumas, depression, self-damaging behaviors, and scrupulosity/OCD.

OCD and anxiety related disorders can feel like a game of whack a mole in which after solving one worry another one pops up quickly to replace it. For an individual suffering from one of these disorders and for their loved ones this game can feel exhausting, frustrating, and impossible to win. I provide telehealth services in Utah, and Idaho.

Our work together can cover a myriad of concerns, including anxiety, depression, OCD, faith struggles, life transitions, perfectionism, and trauma.
Reaching out for help requires vulnerability and courage. To honor that, I both (1) strive to foster a nonjudgmental, collaborative atmosphere where you feel comfortable sharing at your own pace and (2) ensure that our work together is grounded in empirical evidence. I consider it a privilege to hear about people’s lives and be a part of their journeys. I have witnessed the significant pain that attends mental health issues and so have a great deal of compassion for individuals who are struggling. I firmly believe that people can find more peace and meaning in their lives and move toward their aspirations.

I have many specialty areas including general anxiety/depression, perinatal mental health (for men and women), supporting those dealing with infertility, OCD, trauma and big life changes/transitions.
I can help you reconnect with yourself! It is time to find the balance that allows you to thrive and be the best version of you! When I first meet with clients they often express the feeling that they have lost their identity while trying to keep up with demands placed upon them from kids, spouse, work, and society. They put pressure on themselves to be perfect to the point of anxiety/depression. it's lonely and isolating. I am here to show you that there is hope and meaning in your future. The cycle can be reversed, and you may be surprised how capable and incredible you are with the support of a caring therapist like me.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
