I work with teens and adults experiencing loss and/or struggles with their relationships. I work with clients who are constantly being told they are “too hard on themselves'“; people that are struggling with worrying about what others may think of them, and are finding it difficult to place boundaries in relationships. We are constantly being told to get rid of or “fix” a part of ourselves; even when those very parts have helped us through a great deal in our life. Through my work, I aim to help my clients change the relationship they have with these parts of themselves in order to live in more harmony.

I enjoy helping clients who want to explore themselves and work towards being more accepting and confident in who they truly are. If you want to gain a broader perspective in how you are approaching your relationships, both personal and professional, I'd love to help you. Growth and change are challenging, and can also be fun and exciting. In our work we'll practice being more aware of what is really there for you in the area(s) you're working on. It might be that devloping a new skillset in your relationship will help it grow, or that you need help ending a relationship and starting a new one.

Do you feel isolated, anxious, hurt, and misunderstood? Does it feel like nobody else can understand the experiences that you went through? Do you feel as though you lost a part of you and you cant find yourself? Does it feel as though the experiences that you went through changed who you are and that you cant seem to understand yourself anymore?

I work with folks seeking to heal from individual and/or collective trauma, and those looking to form more meaningful connections. Through collaboration we can create a therapeutic space that feels right for you. You might even find greater clarity around your sense of self, your desires, your boundaries, your sexuality, and your relationships with others. I am sex-positive, trans/queer affirming, polyamory/kink informed, pro-SW, and body neutral, as well as committed to the decolonization of therapy.

You've tried to heal in so many ways but nothing seems to really work. You've been to countless therapists but you are always left feeling like your kicking a dead horse. You feel stuck, helpless, and like something must be inherently wrong with you. It could look like not knowing why you do the same things over and over again when you know it will lead to the same result. It might show up in your relationships, job, or identity. At the end of the day, all you know is that you can't keep doing what you've been doing.

Being human can be overwhelming. Most of us are balancing various responsibilities on top of trying to give ourselves what we need, if we even know what that may be. My work focuses on making sense of what feels complex, placing it into words, and meaningful action. Many people I work with are struggling to balance personal wants and expectations of their families, experiencing internal conflict due to living in dual cultures, coping with trauma from substance abuse, racism, or are generally exhausted from worry and sadness.

Making sense of your anxieties, fears or depression can feel overwhelming. We all have the need to be connected and challenged so that we can grow into our best self. I believe that therapy should be hard but rewarding work that can be translated into actionable behavior outside of treatment. The cornerstone of making change is finding a therapist who promotes a sense of safety, compassion and respect to allow your true self to emerge and thrive. I have over 15 years of clinical practice experience in New York City and Philadelphia and value working with diverse individuals and families.

Have you ever felt stuck? Told yourself, “I don’t know what to do,” or “I don’t know where I’m going? Sometimes our “mental chatter” gets in our way and stops us from moving forward and growing in the ways we want. This is especially true when we’re feeling anxious, depleted, or burnt out. That’s when a professional coach or therapist can help. I have more than 15 years of experience supporting people to return to wholeness. That means finding your purpose, successfully navigating transitions, moving out of burnout, developing life and parenting skills, and to attaining your goals.

Taking this first step of searching through profiles on Psychology Today demonstrates a certain level of commitment to improve the quality of your mental health. And it can also be quite overwhelming sifting through all the options (hello decision fatigue). Collectively we're all dealing with so much right now as human beings on this planet, and it is critically important for us to attend to our mental health needs. Whether navigating stressors of day-to-day life, or experiencing a more acute crisis, therapy can be an excellent source of support, healing and empowerment.

I love working with the "unknowns" of a person's life: cultural and gender identity, sexuality, career unknowns, dating, and relationships. I like not having the answers, and helping people navigate the uncertainties in their lives is a never-ending thrill for me. I specialize in working with trauma, disordered eating, sexuality, and anyone seeking a safe space to figure things out. I also enjoy working with women over 30 who are dating or single. There are specific challenges that single women face that are ignored in our society, and I love helping them get to a place of acceptance of themselves, regardless of their relationship.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Philadelphia?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
