I am one of those therapists who genuinely loves their work. Getting to understand my clients and the hurdles they face is a privilege that I take seriously. If you are struggling to form and maintain healthy intimate relationships, overcome trauma, to coexist with and even manage anxiety and depression, to gain new approaches to coping with obsessive compulsive symptoms... well, these are just a few of the issues that we can work on together! We can navigate this journey as a team, collaborate on setting realistic goals, and then you can define what "progress" would look like in your eyes.

I'm Stacy Dove, LPC and co-owner of Set Sail Counseling, LLC. I’m excited that you’re here and considering “setting sail” on your journey toward healing. We believe in the power of relationships to help people heal and to recover from whatever stresses they may have encountered in life. I see my role as a therapist being to help you better understand yourself and the concerns that bring you to therapy, as well as to challenge you to move forward from stuck places and continue to grow. I am currently waitlisting new clients; however, we have openings for telehealth self-pay clients with our new therapist, Stachia Lippy, LPC.

Creating a safe, compassionate, and supportive environment for you to process your experiences, explore your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, and try new ways to thinking and behaving is my goal as your treatment provider. Therapy should be a space of trust and a space to grow without concerns of criticism, shame, or guilt. Often the quote that 'all roads lead back to trauma' comes to my mind, we all have our own shaping experiences. I believe we all benefit from a safe landing space to explore, learn, and grow from our life experiences. Let's find what gives you meaning and further grow your life to support your needs and wants.

Healing, personal growth and ultimately flourishing, takes effort. We may find ourselves fighting against not only the outside world but sometimes ourselves. And if you are reading this far, then I want you to celebrate…here and now. Offer yourself gratitude. While we may aspire for worldly success in our relationships, work, or daily routines, attempting to do so without knowing ourselves deeply, healing personal and generational wounds, and feeling empowered, we fall short. That's why with clients of varying, intersecting identities and unique concerns, I prioritize personal/systemic insight, authenticity, and acceptance.

My specialty lies in working with those who have experienced traumas, both large and small. Many times people see trauma as large life changing events and put aside the smaller things that can leave a mark. I try and explore both of these experiences with my clients, along with their relationships with others and themselves. This can cover a range of topics including, but not limited to, self-esteem, anxiety, boundaries, and self care. My goal is to create a space where clients can explore their emotions on their own timeline not mine or anyone else's.

Trauma. We all experience it at some point in our lives. It’s that thing that keeps you up at night. The thing that you distract yourself from by working extra hours, scrolling endlessly on Tik-Tok, self-harm, addiction, codependency. We run, fight, freeze, fawn, shut-down. Our bodies are built to adapt to the stress in our lives but what happens when the stress is too much? When we run into obstacles like bullying, abuse, illness, separation, loss, disasters? What happens when there is no one to witness our pain? We forget about the parts of ourselves that are creative, brave, intuitive, funny, smart, kind, gentle, strong.

Hello, I'm Chris. If you've ever felt like you've been alone in society and that you are experiencing a sense of stress related to societal expectations that are unrealistic or built for those who are in a group you feel you don't belong to, I may be a good fit for you. I have an extensive history of working with individuals of various minority group backgrounds, but specialize and focus in working with people who identify within the LGBTQ+ community, including offering affirming services and helping people navigate coming out, family and peer relationships, and romantic and sexual concerns.

Are you dealing with life transitions and trying to find yourself? Are you trying to break the cycle and begin the process of learning to be vulnerable and self-reflect? Are you committed to “showing up”? You may have difficulty finding independence in your unhealthy family dynamics and are working on finding a sense of self outside your relationships. You have dealt with anxiety and negative thoughts and no longer want these issues to hold you back.

Are you feeling stuck or ambivalent? Uncertainty can be overwhelming and a source of anxiety. My goal is to help guide my clients to find their own answers by providing a safe, comfortable environment for expressing and exploring feelings. I will not rush into fixing, but rather find the right questions to ask to help you delve deeper in your exploration and see things from a new perspective.

The journey to health can be made much smoother by talking to someone who will actively listen and provide you with feedback. You and I can collaborate to find the best pathways to manage or alleviate your symptoms. You don’t have to go through it alone!

As a therapist, my role is to walk with people in understanding themselves and their lived experiences, to help people acquire skills to cope with adversity and build resilience, and to foster health, well-being, and self-compassion in a safe, nonjudgmental space. I strive to provide a warm, inclusive environment where clients can be themselves unconditionally - where they are free and encouraged to be who they are without hesitation. I believe the most crucial aspect of therapy is a solid, collaborative relationship based on empathy, trust, respect, and honesty. I understand my clients as human beings before anything else.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
