I work best with clients ages 18 to 70 who are experiencing depression, anxiety, grief, loss, trauma or addiction. I enjoy assisting clients who are interested in addressing healthy coping skills, core beliefs, and who are open to examining what they think and how it impacts what they feel and how behaviors can be re-learned. I support diversity and welcome persons of all faiths or those who are atheists or humanists. In addition, I support the LGBT community. I believe that I connect well with most clients and find that those seeking treatment are much healthier and lovable than they believe they are.

I believe relationships and connection are the foundation of strength, trust, respect and positive self-esteem. It takes tremendous strength and courage to seek support through a counselor and it is so important for my clients to feel heard and connected throughout their therapeutic experience. I enjoy helping to facilitate growth and confidence within all my clients by focusing on strengths and embracing adversity. I believe each and every one of us is capable of lasting change and the right counselor can be the first step in moving towards achieving your personal goals and strengthening relationships.

I am thankful to have helped many individuals on their healing journey from eating disorders and OCD.
I love working with teens and adults who are tired of feeling trapped by their eating disorder, hate what they see when they look in the mirror, or are exhausted by their OCD.

My experience centers around those needing help with anxiety, including OCD, depression, and management of life transitions, both teens and adults.
Sometimes when we struggle, we need help finding the strategies to move forward. Perhaps you are overwhelmed with anxiety, worry, loss or sadness. Maybe you are feeling the pressure to be perfect; in your job, as a parent, friend or even when you think about your appearance. What you seek is relief from this constant pressure. Therapy offers you the opportunity to explore where you are, and then take steps, at your own pace, to establish a healthy balance. You don't have to go this alone. In therapy we will explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviors, and together, with compassion, help you find the balance you strive to find.

I treat clients with anxiety-based disorders, ranging from OCD or panic disorders to generalized anxiety. Additionally, general life stressors, such as client's enrolled in college, is an area that I feel competent in and passionate about. An ideal client would be aware of their challenges and motivated to do the work that therapy often requires. I enjoy working with clients who have goals of increasing their overall life satisfaction, whether through learning skills such as self-regulation techniques or goals of learning about symptoms to reduce these symptoms and increase overall life satisfaction.

My clinical experience as a psychologist includes addressing issues related to trauma, depression, anxiety and OCD, disordered eating, emotional difficulties, mood disorders, and personality disorders. I strongly believe that empowering my clients through learning skills to address these problems is the key to successful therapy. I also incorporate your personal values into skill building to emphasize the importance of living a value-driven life. Change is possible, suffering does not have to last forever, and it is possible to get fulfillment out of life, regardless of the circumstances.

I have a specialty in treating eating disorders and mood disorders, though I also have a passion for and training in treating OCD and trauma.
My ideal client struggles with Anxiety, Depression, Eating Disorders, Trauma, and/or related conditions. They are motivated for change or at least open to the possibility of change. They are open to feedback and willing to lean into the therapeutic process. They do not need to have clear goals for the therapeutic process right away but are willing to work to identify these goals in the treatment process. They would want to improve their life in some way, or even just their relationship with themselves.

You know what to do, but when it comes time to actually doing it, you fall into old patterns. You feel like no one gets you, and maybe you feel like no one actually cares. Some days, you wonder if you are even worth caring about. You float between feeling out of control of your emotions and pushing them down. You’re afraid of people getting too close, yet you want, more than anything, genuine human connection. If anxiety, depression, or trauma are creating stress, self-esteem, or relationship issues, I'm here to help.

Are you a young adult dealing primarily with anxiety and life transition issues? This could be a recent college graduate starting their first big job, a major transition. I like walking beside them through these transitions and being an additional support. I also like helping people learn breathing techniques to manage anxiety and learn about polyvagal theory and a bottom-up approach. I enjoy working with clients who can articulate their goals, such as managing anxiety better and working on anxiety in different settings.

I am accepting clients ranging from fourteen years of age and older. I work with individuals, families, and couples. Although I have experience treating an eclectic range of concerns, ideally, my clients may be facing symptoms of anxiety, depression, substance misuse, and PTSD. I have great expertise in treating dually-diagnosed clients, substance misuse, and mental health. The stress and hardships that come with these issues are often too much to handle on your own; please let me help.

Soul-crushing sadness and self-doubt are your constant companions. It’s come to the point where you’re emotionally bankrupt. You’ve spent your entire life working harder, performing better, aiming higher, and yet you still feel like a failure. You’re never good enough. The past few years of your life have been spent taking care of everyone else. You’re not even sure you know how to take care of yourself anymore. Painful and hurtful memories from the past keep surfacing in your mind. It takes all your energy to keep them at bay and get through another day. The effort leaves you perpetually exhausted and hopeless. You need some help.

I am adept at supporting clients with anxiety, depression, and trauma-related symptoms, seeking greater self-awareness, clarity, and insight about their current struggles and how to shift them. My ideal client is motivated to change and is interested in co-creating the goals to work towards that change, with the ultimate aim being to reduce distress and build/nurture a rich and meaningful life. I often suggest homework to help practice the skills we are learning together in session. I integrate extensive clinical experience, specialized training, & my unique personality (including a healthy dose of confidence, humility, and humor).

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
