We have been helping people learn how to make the changes they want since 2008. Relationship woes? Existential Angst? Have a troubled teen or child in trouble? Feel stuck your life? You are not alone. There are other people out here going through this too. This is temporary. We will reach out to you, discuss your needs, and pair you with a therapist familiar with your needs. Together, you will meet, identify issues, collaborate to create a plan, follow through with some reasonable interventions, and figure out ways to make the changes last.

With over 25 years working with adults, adolescents, and families, I believe in collaboration and building trust in the therapeutic process. I work to create a safe, nonjudgmental environment wherein the person can freely discuss difficult emotions and problematic areas of their life. My goal is to help you gain insight and develop new perspectives that will lead to a more positive outlook and improve your overall well being. Exploring obstacles, we will work towards the understanding that making changes takes time and a great deal of courage.

My approach to psychotherapy is based on both my education and more than 30 years of experience as a clinical psychologist, including research, teaching, writing, and supervision. Psychotherapy is a path defined by both therapist and client. Each individual client brings unique resources, strengths, weaknesses, problems, hopes, and expectations to therapy as well as their own idiom, their way of expressing themselves. Together, we will search for what gives meaning to your life and what may be interfering in its realization. Successful psychotherapy depends on the quality of the relationship between client and therapist.

Not accepting new clients
Unfortunately I am not taking new clients at this time. I am a licensed clinical social worker and have been practicing in the area for over 30 years. I work with pre-teens, adolescents, adults and couples and have extensive experience in a variety of evidence based treatments. Although I work with individuals ages 10+, I specialize in adolescents struggling with anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts and/or self-harm, and regulating their emotions. I am also experienced working with transgender and non-binary youth. Making the phone call is the hardest step, I would be glad to discuss any questions you may have.

* Anxiety and avoidance (OCD, panic, worrying, phobias, etc.
I'm a licensed clinical psychologist and certified school psychologist, specializing in treating children, adolescents, and families using Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) in homes, schools and the community. CBT treatment is highly recommended for anxiety, impulse, and conduct disorders. While it is well-established that CBT within real-world settings significantly improves functioning compared to office-based treatment, few professionals accept the challenge! As a professional with 20 years of experience traveling to families throughout Long Island, I understand that intense emotions, troubled relationships and significant avoidance cannot simply be discussed away in therapy, but mindfully experienced and addressed when and where they occur.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
