I have extensive training and experience using Cognitive-Behavioral Therapies (CBT) to treat anxiety, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), and OCD related disorders.
I believe that using evidence-based techniques in a compassionate therapeutic relationship is the key to successful treatment. My work with my clients is grounded in empathy and connection while helping individuals gain insight into their struggles. As your therapist, I will help you learn how to reduce the impact and influence of painful thoughts and feelings while taking action to build a life that is full and meaningful. You will also learn how to implement new techniques and skills and, ultimately, how to be your own therapist.

Feelings of emotional pain, depression or anxiety, alert us that important needs are not being met. When needs are not met we feel vulnerable and require protection. As a psychoanalyst I work with the whole person to find less taxing forms of protection so that fears, social withdrawal or repetitive attempts at safety become less necessary. I encourage relaxed communication at a very comfortable pace to nurture a greater sense of safety so your drive for freedom naturally leads you to the life you want. I work to resolve depression, creative blocks, OCD, trauma, romantic difficulties, and problems at work.

I utilize ERP, the gold standard for OCD, CBT, and solution-focused therapy.
It's getting more and more difficult to resist your compulsions. You're getting upset with yourself for not having enough "willpower." You're having frightening thoughts about yourself and others. Thoughts that scare you or contradict your values and who you are as a person. You experience self-hate every time you give into a compulsion. You're exhausted by your own mental and/or physical compulsions. You struggle to trust yourself and often experience shame surrounding your thoughts. You keep it all to yourself because you fear that others will judge you or betray you. Simultaneously, you need emotional support more than ever.

I specialize in navigating these life transitions, whether you are experiencing anxiety, grief, OCD, chronic illness, depression, or relationship issues.
Transitioning to adulthood can be a confusing time where life goes from black and white to being extremely grey. Adulthood can bring up questions you have never asked yourself, leaving people feeling confused and out of control about who they are.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
