My specialty areas include working with anxiety disorders, OCD, depression, bipolar disorder, trauma/PTSD, life transitions, and other presenting challenges.
Welcome! I'm glad you're here. Whether you've tried therapy before or you're brand new to the process, taking these first steps can be nerve-wracking. Because of this, I believe that the safe, trusting environment and relationship built between therapist and client is at the core of this work. What’s most important to me is that you feel comfortable being yourself in therapy, and my goal is that you always feel heard, supported, and accepted. Therapy is different for everybody, and I want this process to be unique and personal to you and your needs.

With some new skills, support, exposures, and a boost in confidence, OCD will have nothing on you! I can teach you how to beat your OCD.
Are your thoughts wearing you down? Your stress feels like it's not normal. In fact, you hate the word, "normal." You’ve talked about your worries with your mom and while she is your go-to person, she can’t fix this for you. You are very successful with school, work, and you name it, you are at the top. You wonder how you do it all, especially with the anxiety you feel inside. OCD is the uninvited guest living rent free in your head. It shows up by worrying about accidentally hurting someone, touching something contaminated, not wanting to throw up, and whatever you do, it has to be "just right."

I enjoy working with clients struggling with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), anxiety, and perfectionism. I recognize the challenging cycle of intrusive thoughts, anxiety, obsessive doubt, avoidance, and compulsions, and can help provide some guidance around becoming “unstuck” from difficult patterns that are no longer serving you. If you struggle with using substances or other behavioral addictions to cope, and are wanting to set some goals surrounding your use, I am dually licensed to treat co-occuring substance use as well.

Everyone has a calling. I believe mine is supporting children, young adults and families. For younger children, I work collaboratively with parents to understand the sources contributing to the child’s difficulties, to help rebuild a feeling of closeness, warmth and effective parenting. For older adolescents and young adults, our work is often centered on preparing to launch as an independent adult. That means strengthening relationships with family and friends, sorting out the balance of work and life choices, making values-based career decisions, and figuring out how to live in a way that really aligns with personal values.

I specialize in treating trauma/PTSD and OCD.
Therapy is a powerful tool that can help you recognize perceptions and behavior patterns that may have served you at some point but that currently hold you back. It can help you harness your strengths, heal from trauma, become more fully present, develop more authentic connections, and relate to your emotions as allies instead of enemies. I offer a flexible approach to therapy, drawing from evidence-based treatments while taking into account your unique needs and preferences. I highly value the working relationship and will check in with you regularly about how therapy is going and whether you are on track with your goals.

Everyone is responsible for protecting and nurturing their mental health. Navigating through difficult life experiences can manifest stress, unhappiness, anxiety, anger, etc. Sometimes, we develop harmful ways to cope with these life experiences such as isolating ourselves, lashing out at others, abusing substances, among other things. It can be difficult to take the first step and reach out for therapy/counseling. However, taking that first step means that you're prepared to figure out how you can improve your circumstance and move forward. It's my mission to offer you support through your process of achieving mental wellness!

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
