I work with people struggling with depression, low self-esteem, trauma, anxiety, and OCD.
Have you been struggling with depression or low self esteem to the point of hating yourself? Maybe you've been struggling with this for years and can't imagine not dealing with it. Do you have horrible memories from your past that you try your best to ignore but they always seem to seep their way into your brain? It's not your fault that you have trauma, but you may sometimes feel like it is. What about obsessive, anxious thoughts that you can't get our of your head? They might even be causing you to act in a way that doesn't feel like you.

I feel so fortunate that I get to help my clients alleviate anxiety, depression, and OCD get unstuck and live with more freedom and purpose.
Your mind has been pushing you around with negative thoughts. You have tried to "be more positive" but that hasn't worked. You are having problems in your relationships and some days feel like a ride on an emotional rollercoaster. You know something needs to change but you aren't sure what. You are feeling stuck.

I treat anxiety in its many forms, such as panic attacks, OCD, loss and grief, PTSD, social anxiety, generalized anxiety, existential questions, midlife issues, adjustment disorder, and good old-fashioned stuck-ness.
Real change is possible. Successful therapy explores human life in its fullest sense - what we do, what we think, and what we feel - while being grounded in the deep experience of living in a human body. My primary therapeutic framework is called Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, which provides a rich, evidence-based, blend of mindful and somatic interventions, along with a strong cognitive and behavioral orientation. Together, my clients and I examine our deepest values, and how those values are expressed in how we live each day. Our lives are not problems to be solved - they are opportunities to flourish.

My specialty is working with people who are anxious or suffering with OCD.
You will find that I enjoy connecting to people through their interests, passions and experiences. I like to bring a sense of humor into sessions when appropriate and treat everyone with dignity, respect and compassion. We will not just talk about your problems, but I will get to know you as a person so we can utilize those strengths to manage the less desirable parts of self, thus moving toward acceptance rather than judgement.

I partner with my clients to unveil and process their unique emotions in an empathetic, safe, and non-judgmental approach. Therapy is not only a passion of mine; most importantly, it is an honor.

As a native of Iredell County, it is my privilege to counsel individuals who live here and in surrounding areas. Past experience includes working with adults of all ages, couples, children and teens. I particularly enjoyed working with teens in an alternative school setting. I have also counseled individuals struggling with OCD, ADHD, anxiety, depression, parenting issues, low self-esteem, and developmental disabilities. I especially empathize with the DD population due to personally experiencing many of the struggles faced by having a daughter who was born with Spina bifida.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
