I often utilize creativity and even a sense of fun in the mastering of problems such as depression, anxiety, impulsivity, attentional issues and obsessive disorders.
Seeking therapy for your child can be overwhelming and is important to work with a therapist who is collaborative and consistently available to parents. I specialize in play therapy with young children and psychotherapy for teens and I work with youngsters coping with chronic medical illness. My approach is creative, warm and accessible to all family members and I utilize a variety of treatment modalities, including cognitive behavioral strategies, art therapy, sand play therapy and group counseling. I assist parents in becoming "on the same page" regarding their children and I help caregivers to review their own parenting styles.

I have experience in addressing a wide range of issues such as anxiety, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, fears/phobias, school refusal, grief/loss, parenting difficulties, chronic illness, self-esteem, relationship issues, school-based challenges, social skills, behavioral difficulties, and adjusting to major life transitions.
We all want what’s best for ourselves, children, and others. You may notice a change over time for either you or your child “not feeling like my usual self” and not handling things in the same way at home, work, school, or in interactions with others. If you have ever felt like you do not know what to do or say therapy can be a place to work through feelings, thoughts, and situations that you have tried your hardest and best to respond to but feel at a loss or stuck. Therapy can help with sorting out why these changes have occurred in order to be able to move forward and feel like you are “back on track” and “in a better place”.

Most of my clients struggle with anxiety and/or obsessive-compulsive symptoms. I embrace situations that require nuanced approaches, and I find excitement in eliciting clarity and hope especially in situations where the path to growth feels narrow and treacherous.

We all strive to live healthy and happy lives, but many variables, circumstances, or feelings can get in the way and cause a setback in one’s journey. It can be incredibly exhausting navigating through a day or a week, and life's changes can often seem insurmountable. It is rare that people have the opportunity to focus entirely on themselves. I offer that space where you can feel safe and heard.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
