In my practice, I work with a variety of issues including anxiety, OCD, depression, ADHD, and problems associated with stress, relationships, life transitions, grief, and loss.
I have always liked the metaphor that therapy is like riding in the car with someone. You are the one behind the wheel, deciding where and how fast we go and I am the one with the map helping you to get there. I believe in forming collaborative relationships with the people I work with. I strive to help you understand yourself better so that you can make meaningful change in your life. My goal is to help you form strategies and ways of thinking that can be translated from the therapy room to every day life - to work, school. relationships, and within yourself.

I enjoy working holistically with individuals, from teens to older adults, as well as couples/relationships to enhance communication skills and deepen connections. I utilize mindfulness, attachment, and self-compassionate approaches and find a great deal of benefit from incorporating creative interventions, such as the use of art and horticultural therapies. I'm an EMDRIA approved EMDR therapist and also have advanced training in Exposure and Response Prevention therapy, which I most often use in conjunction with ACT, to treat OCD and anxiety symptoms. Additionally, I am a gender specialist with advanced training through WPATH.

Waitlist for new clients
For the past 10 years, I have worked with clients who experience depression, anxiety, OCD, bipolar disorder, suicidal thoughts, psychotic symptoms, trauma, addiction in the family, and relationship problems.
There are times when navigating life's difficulties can be especially challenging and you're not quite sure how you'll get through. You may be feeling overwhelmed with stressful situations, facing periods of transition, experiencing anxiety and/or depression, reeling from a break-up, inundated by waves of grief, or feeling stuck in dysfunctional family life. There's no doubt that you're doing the best you know how to do to cope with difficult emotions, yet you're still finding that you're struggling to function in daily life like you used to or want to. Reaching out for help is the first step in taking charge of your wellbeing.

TELEHEALTH AVAILABLE! Does nothing relieve your obsessive thoughts, panic attacks, or anxiety? Come explore the latest innovations in emotional healing. Most psychotherapy methods rely upon talking, but talking alone is not always enough. The most effective procedures bypass the talking process and meet emotional needs at a deeper level. By addressing core emotional needs with non-touch, body-oriented procedures in conjunction with counseling, my approach offers direct access to the healthy person inside. I enjoy discovering the real person behind the emotional problems.

My expertise is particularly attuned to the following areas: challenges unique to adolescents, managing anxiety and depression, improving self-worth, navigating relationship and peer dynamics, addressing school-related anxiety, treating OCD, supporting individuals with Asperger’s Syndrome, developing effective coping mechanisms, enhancing stress management.
Transform your mindset to transform your reality. It’s not uncommon to become entangled in negative self-dialogue and limiting convictions about ourselves and our surroundings, leading to feelings of stress, anxiety, fear, and depression. This may cause a loss of self-belief and a diminishing trust in others. In my practice, I create a nurturing and nonjudgmental space where both adolescents and adults can comfortably examine these thoughts and beliefs, aiming for a more joyful existence. Using strategies from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Solution-Focused Therapy, we will collaborate to make the positive life changes you seek.

I am incredibly fortunate to be the son of Professor Arnold Lazarus. Not only did I literally learn at the feet of the man who pioneered cognitive-behavior therapy (CBT), but from his amazing colleagues and friends as well. Indeed, I have been privileged to get to know and learn from Carl Rogers, Albert Ellis, Aaron Beck, Francine Shapiro, and Marsha Linehan, to name only a few. Hence, I have been able to synthesize the teachings of many of the greatest minds in psychology into an approach that is at once scientifically grounded, tailored to fit the needs of unique individuals, highly flexible, and comprehensive.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
