I primarily specialize in anxiety disorders, with a particular focus on OCD.
In psychotherapy, the therapeutic relationship plays a central role in fostering change and personal growth. I aim to establish the trust and support necessary for achieving therapeutic goals. Psychotherapy involves identifying and addressing challenges while removing obstacles to lead a more fulfilling, authentic, and meaningful life. I believe there is an inherent wisdom within each of us, but we sometimes become lost and lose our connection. I approach the client with warmth, understanding, and mutual respect, serving as a supportive ally on the path to healing.

My specialities include anxiety, depression, self esteem struggles, OCD, bipolar, couples, and transitions in life.
My goal in psychotherapy is to establish a genuine relationship with my clients in order to foster emotional growth and change. We participate in an empathetic collaboration to address emotional and/or behavioral struggles with sensitivity to strengths and limitations. As my clients gain insights into their lives, I encourage them to consider taking actions to affect change. They thereby gain self confidence and a sense of well-being that empower them to reach their goals. In our exchanges we discuss the emotional, cultural, and social conditions that they face, in order to promote greater self-awareness.

I help you to see your symptoms as a meaningful response to concerns that you have about your life and yourself. I help you become aware of what is keeping you from living the way you want to live. I help you to get clear about what you want in the way of love, work (expressing yourself) and enjoyment of life and to use your thoughts, feelings, intentions, talents and strengths to get on a path towards satisfying those desires. I help people heal from trauma. I don't believe drugs are good treatment and will help you withdraw from them.

By addressing troubling thoughts and feelings, self-sabotaging behaviors, and traumas, life can be made more manageable, productive, and fulfilling. Feelings such as grief, shame, anxiety, sadness, and anger often signal that something needs to change. Listening to and working with these feelings—some that consume us and others that gently nudge us—can move us forward. Through this, we sometimes discover that our everyday dilemmas are part of larger patterns waiting to be resolved as a whole.

My PhD in Clinical Psychology has given me the knowledge and sensitivity that psychotherapy is a very personal experience. Together we gain the trust to peel the layers of the "false self" away from the true, authentic self. Each person is different, therefore each person's healing has to be treated individually. Human suffering can be healed and I treat trauma from early childhood to the present, treating unhealthy early attachment issues we may use now in relationships. Together we will examine patterns which the patient finds distressing and long standing. I do not give advise, rather I help the patient find the advise within.

Most of my clients want to be able to love themselves, and to be able to love others. They have a variety of issues that prevent that love from happening: trauma, abandonment, emptiness, anger, compulsions, despair, fear, sadness, grief, lack of boundaries, or boundaries that are too harsh. My clients have inner voices that punish them or isolate them, when they only long to experience a full and satisfying life.

You exist within cultures, systems, and contexts that impact your health, wellbeing, and sense of who you are. Gender inequality, incarceration, racial inequality, LGBTQ discrimination, medical bias, financial insecurity, housing insecurity, etc. impacts our ability to thrive. We experience trauma within these systems and are left believing it's our own fault. Our own weakness. Our own problem to deal with. You are not alone! Navigating an unjust society is exhausting and you want to do more than survive and "get by". You want to thrive and live with integrity knowing that you exist and have a right to live with dignity.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
