I believe that you are the expert of your own life. I feel that I am simply the guide on the journey to help clarify the forks in the road. It is you who must have the courage and strength to then walk that road. It is then my job to assist in building, supporting, and unearthing the courage and strength that is already there. I have extensive experience working with children, adolescents, young adults, and adults. I am very passionate about helping individuals improve their quality of life through support, insight driven, evidence based, and patient paced therapy.

Working with those who struggle to overcome the trauma of abusive relationships has been my life dream. However, trauma comes in many forms and leaves ugly scars that wreck havoc on our lives, but it does not have to control our lives. We can be overcomers! Working from a Mindfulness/CBT and person centered perspective allows us change the way we think about our past and regain control of our future.

We all have goals, dreams, and aspirations. Sometimes it is hard to reach those goals on our own. There is nothing wrong with asking for help. I am here to serve those that are in need of behavioral services. ABA therapy is an evidence-based applied science. Utilizing ABA, I am able to assist in changing socially significant behaviors with procedures that are clearly defined and replicable. I live by the motto, "Be the change you want to see." Let's work together towards positive changes one step at a time.

I find great personal reward in helping adults/children dealing with anxiety disorders such as obsessive/compulsive and adjustment disorders, as well as grief, trauma, and PTSD.
Our counseling philosophy is based on solution focused theory whereby we help individuals and families identify stressors which may lead to anxiety, depression, or behavioral issues and guide development of coping skills to problem solve. We find that learning to communicate with others in an assertive, non-aggressive manner facilitates creating a foundation for loving, supportive relationships. Although most sessions focus on a narrative, conversational approach, we often incorporate art therapy/play therapy in working with clients of all ages. Our clients are self-motivated individuals/families committed to improving their lives.

I work with adults, adolescents, and children struggling with obsessive-compulsive disorder (intrusive thoughts, reassurance seeking, and anticipatory anxiety), generalized anxiety, panic, PTSD symptoms, depression, pornography usage, addiction, bullying, Level 1 Autism, and family conflict.
Many of our struggles are due to overthinking. We overthink and fail to act in line with what we really care about. Instead, we engage in repeated behaviors that feel inevitable or irresistible. We overthink relationships, parenting, body sensations, the meaning of life, our fear of germs or illness, our faith, our fate, our fear that we will harm or be harmed, and we rehearse our arguments and resentments. If this is you, you are not alone. The root cause is a little different for everyone. The good news is that you can stop overthinking and start living. You can gain control over that loop of thoughts and behaviors.

People do not come one size fits all, but one thing that can meet the needs of many is empathy. The ability to sit with another person in their pain, confusion, or fear is powerful. My goal with clients is always to meet them where they are and be present with them as they navigate life's ups and downs.

Does it feel like you've just been struggling through life lately? Maybe you often feel overwhelmed, worn out, or like you're running on empty. Life is full of ups and downs and sometimes those low points just seem to go on and on. Whether this is a new feeling for you or it's an old, unwanted friend, you don't have to face it alone. If feelings of shame or worry about being a burden have kept you from seeking help in the past, know that you are God's creation and are deserving of receiving help.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
