Talking to a therapist is hard; all those emotions are difficult, and being strong all the time for those around you is exhausting. I get it, and I want to make it easier for you. I use interactive techniques that do not leave you sitting on the couch, staring, and not knowing what to say. You came looking at this site for a reason; I believe the reason is that you have suffered long enough and are ready to make a change. Change is scary; you are not alone. I'll be there with you as you make the change. Give me a call.

In the diverse landscape of therapeutic support, my practice stands out for its commitment to fostering growth and healing across life's spectrum. I am dedicated to helping both individuals and couples as they face a range of challenges, ensuring that each aspect of my work—from navigating relationship dynamics to addressing personal issues like OCD, anxiety, and boundary-setting—is approached with equal focus and expertise. I also love to work with people struggling with Spiritual Abuse and journeys of doubt within their faith.

I have specialized in Anxiety Disorders, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and Body-focused repetitive behaviors since 2015.
Hi! I'm Allie Wilson, MA, LPC, owner of Brave Steps Counseling, LLC. Anxiety manifests itself differently for each person, but often includes the words "what if?" and offers a way out through avoidance, worry, rituals and reassurance. These behaviors are often automatic and seem uncontrollable; however, they are not effective long-term and only serve to increase anxiety rather than provide true help. Some people feel bullied by their anxiety and despair of life ever changing, yet there is hope for a life that is not controlled by anxiety or obsessive thoughts.

I am privileged to work with two specific groups of people: Christian ministry professionals and pastors, and those who suffer from OCD or anxiety disorders. You may be embarrassed to seek help while quietly longing for a safe place to process your struggles or get help with managing your suffering. If you are ready to pursue greater health for yourself and for the sake of those around you, I encourage you to contact me. I enjoy helping clients to find freedom and healing, to understand themselves better, and to move in the direction of a fuller life.

I have experience working with children, adolescents, and adults who are struggling with anxiety disorders and most specifically obsessive compulsive disorder.
We all experience challenges in life and asking for help often times isn’t easy. I am passionate about helping people feel better and less impacted from their struggles. I meet people where they are at and work to help you in a realistic and approachable manner. Over the course of my career I have been blessed to work with many college students, young adults, and adults who are struggling with anxiety disorders and OCD along with life challenges. I always make sure to focus on an individual’s internal strengths to help empower them in their life.

I have experience working with people who have brains with symptoms of ADHD, anxiety, depression, OCD, bi-polar highs and low, and the autism spectrum.
I believe everyone deserves to be genuinely heard and understood. Before joining Ellie as an LPC, my career was anchored within the public school system as a parent, substitute teacher, special education teacher, psychological examiner, and school-based therapist. Although children, teens, and young adults were my focus, I often found myself equally supporting guardians. My desire is to help clients of all ages use their strengths to find creative, practical, realistic ways to approach life's challenges.

I've had success working with clients dealing with anxiety (social, general, OCD, panic attacks).
After retiring as Director of Counseling at Lindenwood University, I moved to Warren County; I live in Wright City and now practice videotherapy from my home office. I have been an LPC in Missouri since 1987, and the author of two books. I very much enjoy working with clients; I have a professional, energetic, friendly style. As a systems therapist, I approach clients in an interdependent manner... never in isolation. Even when working with individual clients, I am mindful of how their myriad relationships affect them...and how they affect others. I think of all clients psycho-biologically. IFS and ketamine are new interests.

Beyond RO-DBT, I also work with people who struggle with OCD, specific phobias/fears, and PTSD.
Do you struggle with chronic or treatment-resistant depression or anxiety? Do you have high standards for yourself or others that are sometimes impossible to live up to? When others are having fun and relaxed, is it hard for you to join in? If any of these apply to you, then we might be a great therapeutic match! Trained by the treatment developers at the Radically Open Institute, I specialize in Radically Open Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, an evidence-based, transdiagnostic therapy for disorders of overcontrol. I love working with people to build a life that’s not only worth living but also worth sharing!

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
