Offering services in; anxiety, depression, OCD, trauma, family/marital therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), behavioral therapy, play therapy, person-centered therapy.
Rachael has been interested in mental health since she can remember. Growing up, this manifested itself into her being a nosy kiddo :). However, as she aged she turned that "nosiness" into a passion, an education, and a career. Rachael is excited about the relief and clarity offered in working through a therapeutic process. Being a Christian, Rachael is also sure that God cares deeply about the wholeness of His people.

I work exclusively with women and have experience working with individuals who experience anxiety, depression, pregnancy/postpartum challenges, grief/loss, infertility, TFMR, OCD, bipolar, and trauma.
I believe one of the bravest things you can do is begin to understand your own story. As a woman, you may be often seen as "Super Woman", where you can do it all and be it all, while putting others and their needs before your own. But the truth is, you are human. You may be feeling overwhelmed, depressed, or anxious or maybe you are struggling with finding balance in your life.

My clinical focus include anxiety, depression, trauma, OCD, loss and grief, and couples therapy.
It can be challenging to start therapy and share your experiences with someone you don’t know. While the process in therapy is sometimes difficult, it can help us to learn more about ourselves and become aware of our behaviors and core values. My approach in therapy is to provide a safe enviroment so you can be yourself, learn more about who you are and become aware of what interrupts your connection with your enviroment, values, or the way you like to live your life.

I specialize in Child Abuse and Neglect but also work with trauma, depression, anxiety, adult survivors of abuse, OCD, personality disorders, ADD/ADHD, bipolar disorder, chronic illness, grief and loss, personal growth, major life transitions and many other diagnoses.
I work with adults, adolescents, couples, families, and children. I use a variety of therapeutic approaches uniquely catered to each client and based on a treatment plan that we develop together. I do not believe that each therapist is automatically the best person for every client that walks through their door, but that the client needs to "click" with the therapist they work with so they have room to do the work they need to do. The possibility for change is powerful and the therapeutic process is often a catalyst and a supportive environment for change.

Grief, anxiety*, panic disorder*, depression, marriage issues, relationship issues, OCD*, chronic illness, trauma*, PTSD*, compulsive behaviors*, compulsive thoughts*, life changing events, job related stress and goal setting are dealt with in a confidential environment.
We are all unique, but the truth is, all of us face challenges and difficulties at different points in our lives. Some difficulties are painful and yet other difficulties seem more "chronic" and "just get in the way of us being the best we can be". Whatever the case is for you, my goal is to partner with you, listen to you, and work together to identify the best strategies and concrete tools for you, to get you where you want to be.

I typically work with individuals who are affected by depression, anxiety, adhd, and/ or ocd disorders .
HI! I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) within the State of Michigan and am a National Board Certified Counselor (NCC). I am the owner of the private practice Schwartz Therapy + Wellness, P.C located in Bingham Farms, MI. My philosophy for therapy is, "small steps every day", this phrase means we are working to take a step forward on your path to understanding yourself. That step is a step of exploration to assist you in becoming a more self aware person. It is a small step, not a leap, nor a run, the point is that little by little you are making a conscious effort to keep moving forward on your journey in life.

"Will life ever feel easy again?" You can't help but wonder, as all of those memories you try to keep in the dark sabotage you once more. You try to smile and move forward, to keep the past in the past. Unfortunately, the pain of what happened always returns. In spite of it all, your courage to move towards healing is there- you just don't know how to begin. You need someone that knows how this darkness feels to help you figure this out. Someone who can help unravel all these burdens in your heart and give you back your confidence. Because deep down you’re worth more than this. You've always been worth more than this.

As you seek to change, develop understanding, find healing, or a greater ability to master challenge, we will work together to achieve it. We might begin with exploring an understanding of your interactions and relationships or focusing on particular current situations and how one might work with them. Having tools & strategies for change, knowing how to engage with yourself to tackle your goals, and our discovery of viable steps to get there allows achievement. Seeking therapy is a wonderful gift for your life. I remain appreciative that I have the opportunity to participate in this work.

I believe change is possible when people feel safe, supported, and empowered to make the life changes they want to see for themselves. I think we are all born with a story, however, through empowerment and self-awareness we are able to write the chapters of our lives that align with our most authentic selves. I strive to provide a comfortable and safe therapeutic environment for my clients to be able to openly discuss any life challenges they may face.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
