I have specialized training in Cognitive Processing Therapy for PTSD and in Exposure and Response Prevention for OCD.
It is frustrating to feel stuck. It is painful to feel alone and misunderstood, even if you are in a committed relationship. It is exhausting to fight your own thoughts. The questions that you are asking yourself right now show that you have the strength needed to heal and to grow.

I have been trained in exposure and response prevention (ERP) for treating OCD, which is considered the first-line treatment for OCD.
I value a collaborative approach to therapy, where we work together to set goals that work for you. Maybe you’re seeking support for a diagnosis such as anxiety, depression, or OCD. You might struggle with a history of invalidation, or other interpersonal concerns. Maybe you struggle with executive dysfunction, and are having trouble turning your motivation into action, or maybe you need help building that motivation. Maybe you aren’t quite sure yet what you want to work on in therapy. No matter what brings you in, your story is unique, and I am dedicated to tailoring your therapy experience to your unique situation.

I have experience with regards to treating trauma, anxiety, eating disorders, and OCD.
I love working with individuals that wish to take action to improve themselves. Regardless of their mental health concerns or the catalyst that led to change. If you are feeling lost or unsure where to go, having a guide can help with that. If you are feeling anxious, worried, or feel as though you need to do some general processing, you don’t have to do it alone. Once we work through whatever is holding you down, you may be surprised with how free you will feel.

The good news is that if you or your loved one is troubled with unwanted thoughts or worries, physical symptoms due to anxiety, perfectionism, phobias, health fears, or any other anxiety there is help. Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and more specifically exposure therapy has repeatedly shown to be the most effective approach for defeating anxiety and OCD.

I am passionate about working with people who have anxiety disorders and OCD - in my experience they are clear how long they have suffered, they work hard in treatment, and, then, they get better. That, to me, is the point of treatment... to feel better and to start doing the things in life that matter to you. Anxiety and OCD can make you feel horribly stuck in fears and upsetting thoughts, often having thoughts that leave you confused or terrified. My treatment specialty, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), aims to make thoughts less scary and to make things that feel impossible... easier.

I work with skin-picking/hair-pulling, and specialize in treatment of OCD.
Life often hands us challenges we don't feel capable of managing. Our thoughts, feelings, and expectations can be so overwhelming that they become obstacles to making decisions and living our lives to the fullest. Therapy is a safe environment to understand our thoughts and feelings, face pain and fear, and align our lives to our values. The freedom that comes from understanding and facing our challenges is well worth the effort. In treatment, I help cultivate an environment of trust and compassion to face and overcome life's challenges through an integration of CBT, ACT, ERP, relational, and dynamic therapies.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
