Anxiety OCD, stress, panic, life transitions, relationships issues, & depression are specific disorders and challenges I treat.
I work with each person's innate strengths to help them improve life long after therapy has terminated. I work to find the root of problems and help people solve issues beyond just coping strategies. My approach to therapy is solution focused, grounded in research, and rooted in a strong therapeutic relationship. I help clients identify ways to alter their thoughts, behavior, and environment to improve and change old patterns that may be keeping them stuck. I specialize in work with adults, college students and teens who may be driven, high performing & perfectionistic and struggle with anxiety, low self-worth and/or low mood.

Helping adults overcome anxiety disorders, OCD, and perfectionism is my bread and butter and where my expertise lies.
Starting therapy and finding the right therapist can feel like a daunting task. I congratulate you on taking the first step and am glad you are here! A quick peek into what sessions with me involve: an unbiased, nonjudgmental place to express yourself, building specific coping skills to deal with stressors, psychoeducation, identifying and restructuring negative thinking styles, changing maladaptive behaviors, learning assertiveness skills, identifying and working towards important values in your life, building insight into unhelpful cyclical patterns, increasing self-esteem and confidence, and recognizing your own strengths.

I am also passionate about sex therapy for folks who experience anxiety or who have or suspect they may align with OCD.
In so many areas of our lives, finding affirming care can be a difficult and exhausting process. For those of us who exist outside of normative understandings of gender, race, sexuality, and other identities, feeling fully seen and held in all of our multifaceted and interconnected expressions of self is a rare experience. As an individual, relationship, and sex therapist I strive to create a space where you can show up as your whole complex self. I focus on challenging narratives of what it means to be successful, worthy, valuable, and desirable and on making room for what feels good and true for you.

If any of the above hits home, let’s get you connected with someone who gets it, someone who knows the ins and outs of anxiety, OCD, perfectionism and shame: me.
At best, your uninvited thoughts are uncomfortable. At worst, they totally disturb you and make you question yourself. You worry constantly and your brain is always getting you to follow its rule book, never relaxing, always avoiding. You would never call yourself perfect, but yet you strive for perfection in every move you make. To control your biggest fears, you do things that logically you know don’t even make sense, but you can’t stop because the risk feels too big. And tomorrow? Ultimately it ends up being rinse and repeat, because the cycle is relentless.

When we live our lives in a state of constant fight-or-flight, we can go into survival mode. Worries, phobias, panic attacks, trauma, obsessive thoughts, avoidant behavior, and/or repetitive/compulsive behaviors can make us feel hopeless and helpless. We can find ourselves overthinking, overanalyzing, and feeling powerless. If you're feeling like life hasn't been moving in a positive direction, find yourself in a state of hypervigilence due to trauma and/or frozen by fears and uncertainty, you CAN find your way out - sometimes we just need some extra support to do so.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
