Many of my previous clients have sought help for anxiety, panic attacks, OCD, family/relationship conflict, and more.
My name is Dakota and I provide teletherapy in both the states of Georgia and Florida -- Finding our way through life’s journey can become overwhelming at times. We may reach stages where we feel out-of-touch, out-of-place, and out-of-sync. One method of addressing these bumps on our path is recalibrating how we understand ourselves and others. Learning new ways of handling and adapting to all of life’s changes can be revitalizing. I would be excited to be there with you on your path as a co-journeyer and as a provider of objective, researched-based counseling.

It can be really overwhelming searching for the right therapist, especially with the amount of help available. It may even add to the stress, anxiety, and indecision you’re already feeling. You may have an idea of what you’re coping with or may be unsure. Perhaps you have had some experience in therapy or this is your first time - maybe you feel you’ve tried everything and still no relief. No matter where you are in your mental health journey, I hope to provide you with your own unique treatment experience. I specialize in helping people to get relief from OCD, anxiety, phobias, negative body image, disordered eating, and trauma.

I work with clients who lack a sense of calm and hope. We can label it as anxiety, depression, autism, ADHD, OCD, PTSD, or many other things, but for the person or family that is struggling, it’s the day-to-day overwhelm that matters. This is a parent full of self doubt. This is a child who has outbursts or is easily overwhelmed. This is a teenager who shuts down when looking at homework. This is a professional who sits in their car dreading going into the office.

I use a cognitive approach when treating clients who suffer from moderate to severe mental health related issues including depression, PTSD, anxiety/panic disorders, phobias, OCD, marital distress, and others. I assess for past traumatic experiences that continue to interfere with current life. I also specialize in neurodivergence including ADHD (using most recent research) and "high masking" autism aka Asperger's. In my practice, you can expect a research-based approach designed to move you out of distress and into optimal living. I seek goal-alignment with my client so that our time together will be more efficient and successful.

Moreover, I commonly treat individuals ranging in age who have anxiety disorders, including social anxiety, and OCD.
Many things have changed in our world, and in my experience, there is a need for mental health treatment, perhaps, more than ever. Many people both children and adults describe experiencing the Covid time period as involving emotional hardship, social isolation, and for some, crisis of identity. In addition to the hardships of this period, at present there appears to be a continuation of various hardships, and a shortage of providers and resources for people seeking emotional support. My goal in working with all clients is to be a “keeper of hope.” I am passionate about helping people overcome challenges and improve self-worth.

abuse, complex trauma, race/identity-based trauma), immigrant stress, OCD, disordered eating, and adjustment difficulties (life transitions, fertility/pregnancy/postpartum, grief).
Reaching out to a therapist is hard. So first, take a moment to commend yourself for prioritizing your wellbeing - it is difficult, even for me as a therapist! I believe that we all have a desire for genuine relational connection. However, our past experiences (eg. oppression, trauma, relational disconnections) inform our strategies of survival (eg. perfectionism, addiction, avoidance), which paradoxically leave us feeling dysregulated, isolated, or stuck in painful relationships. I see therapy as a space where you and I can co-create an open & authentic relationship, which will help us explore and heal your current life stressors.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
