I specialize in anxiety issues, including Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, GAD (Generalized Anxiety Disorder) and phobia disorders.
I provide counseling to teens and adults; individuals, couples, and families; with a trauma informed, diversity informed, LGBTQ inclusive approach. My approach to therapy is foremost client centered. I view the role of the therapist as "helper" or "sidekick." While I will contribute my know-how, I am aware that my clients know the "what" and that we discover the "why" together in our sessions. In sessions, my objectives are your objectives. I think that perspective is vital to empowering you so that together we can accomplish the goals that caused you to seek counseling. Feeling safe and supported is vital.

I specialize in the treatment of anxiety and mood disorders including Social Anxiety, Panic, Phobias, Depression and OCD in children, adolescents, and adults. By emphasizing the relationship between thoughts, feelings and behaviors clients gain insight into their concerns and learn techniques for managing their anxiety. To target the behavioral aspects of anxiety I incorporate exposure techniques into my work and help clients engage in exposures in the office and in real-world settings. Mindfulness is also an important aspect of my work, helping clients to be more present in their daily lives.

I have ten years of experience working with adolescents and adults struggling with anxiety, self-esteem, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, women's issues, and perfectionism. At times, the pressure to be perfect and have it all together may leave you feeling disconnected from yourself or the world around you. If you or a loved one are feeling overwhelmed with towering expectations, unhelpful behaviors, and moments of emotional distress, you no longer have to suffer in silence.

Between 2011 and 2015, I provided treatment at the intensive OCD program at the NeuroBehavioral Institute in Weston, Florida.
Anxiety disorders are treatable. I believe in teaching cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) skills so that individuals may become experts in addressing their own needs. My training began at the University of Florida where I participated in research and authored publications under the Department of Psychiatry, which has specialized in the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) for over twenty years. This experience fostered my belief in providing evidence-based treatment. Later, as a doctoral student at Louisiana State University my specializations included parent training, assessment and treatment related to ADHD and Learning Disabilities, as well as group counseling for teens.

With15 years of experience and specialization in managing trauma, anxiety and obsessive/compulsive symptoms, I offer trauma coaching and Exposure Response Prevention therapy to assist and coach you to manage your symptoms.
Daily demands and life strains can easily become complex and taxing when managing symptoms of trauma, grief, or anxiety. Seeking help and support should not add more to your everyday stress. I am here to hold a space for those who seek help in managing trauma, grief, anxiety or obsessive/compulsive symptoms to gain confidence and more 'real time' perspectives of life. Managing daily obstacles with confidence and more clarity is achievable. My philosophy is that a diagnosis or event does not define you. You are the author of your life. With editing and heart, you can manage the ebbs and flows of your life.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
