In addition to providing support for the ups and downs of life I do also specialize in the treatment of trauma, depression, OCD, and anxiety-related disorders.
Perhaps you are having difficulties in your primary relationships, perhaps there are stressors at work, perhaps you face a great choice and several obstacles are hindering your clarity and peace. I have been honored to witness individuals and couples overcome many barriers that initially seemed insurmountable. Based on the lived experience of those I work with I believe that a full, happy, and peaceful life is within reach for everyone who seeks it.

My specialties include OCD and anxiety disorders and working with the LGBTQ+ population. I believe that therapy should be a safe space free of judgment and it is important to me that my clients feel accepted and understood. I strive to form strong relationships with all of my clients so that we have a solid foundation to do the hard work that comes with therapy.

What do you want? What are you doing to get it? Is it working, and if not, what can you do differently? Your personal goals for therapy, once defined, will be at the heart of our work together. I'll support you in applying your strengths, deepening your sense of connection to yourself and those you love, and finding healthy ways to relate to negative thoughts, feelings and behaviors. Suffering is part of the human condition, but together, we can learn to respond to it skillfully. Slowing down, healing and integrating life experiences will be our focus!

The idea that one learns by experiencing and is truly capable of making the necessary shifts in their lives is a mantra I live by. When one person mirrors another with gentle listening, others are able to clearly see what no longer works in their lives. Ingrained habits coming from difficult childhoods could be the very source of havoc, that with conscious awareness, can shift. Perhaps the way one communicates is keeping love from flowing in your life. Maybe parenting a child who reminds you of yourself means confronting yourself on a deeply personal level. Or perhaps it is simply a life transition that is simply too much.

You're "weird," you're queer, you were bullied for being nuero-divergent before we had a word for it. You know that this world doesn't fit you, but you were told that you needed to change to fit this world. You've been through it! And, the lack of attunment and understanding from those around you has only led to more trauma.

Welcome, I’m Abby, I’ve always held a firm belief that I am a human first and a therapist second. I am honored to witness other’s journeys and enter the therapeutic space with wonderment and curiosity. I believe we require less fixing and more untangling from our problem stories. In my practice I come from a place of authenticity and deeply value the alliance that is formed between myself and who I am working with. I am person centered and prioritize the desired outcomes that bring people to see me. I invite people to show up fully as they are and it is my job to provide a safe space where folks can be fully seen, heard and valued.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
